OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS

MESSAGE FROM YOUR BUILDING LEADERS

The Middle School Master Schedule for 2025-26

At MMS, we are committed to creating a school environment that supports the academic, social and emotional growth of every student.  As part of this work, we have been reviewing our middle school schedule to ensure it aligns with the needs of our students and promotes their success in all areas.

The goal of the review is to enhance the schedule in ways that:

  • Improves academic outcomes
  • Shifting academic blocks to earlier in the day for all grade levels
  • Every other day Science and Social Studies for the entire school year as compared to a semester of each
  • Enhancing time for targeted academic intervention and enrichment
  • Increases opportunities for teaching of interpersonal skills
  • Building-wide guided study to start the day with a focus on executive functioning skills
  • Structured and defined time to work on workplace competencies including social skills

We recognize that scheduling plays a critical role in your child’s daily experience, and we want to ensure that any adjustments reflect the needs and voices of our school community. Your insights are invaluable to this process.  Please contact the main office if you would like to set up a time to discuss these changes and provide any feedback to us.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide quality education to your children, I would like to emphasize the importance of regular school attendance. Regular attendance ensures students gain the maximum benefits from our education and social programs that help build strong foundations for their future successes.

We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise that prevent students from attending school. In such cases, we kindly request that you notify the school office as early as possible. Please provide a valid reason for your child’s absence. By doing so, you help us maintain accurate records, ensure the safety of our students, and avoid possible truancy issues.

Below are some reminders when excusing your child’s absence:

  1. Notification: Please call or email the school office by 9:00 AM on the day your child will be absent.
  2. Medical Excuses: Please be prepared to provide a doctor’s note.
  3. Planned Absences/Vacations: Please inform the office at least a day in advance.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school.

Coping with Holiday Stress

The holiday season can be filled with joyous traditions and moments, the hustle and bustle of society can also cause stressful moments to the holiday season as well. Here are some tips to not just “get through” the holidays-but enjoy everything it brings!

  1. Have a positive outlook. When we go into a situation assuming the best, usually we get the best!
  2.  Set boundaries for your family. You know better than anyone what is best for your family. Make sure you stick to that, even if it means having a hard conversation. Protect the peace of your family.
  3.  Use your family’s strengths, values, and interests. Is your family creative? Do you love to give back to your community? Do you enjoy time together? Pick some activities that lean into your family’s uniqueness and prioritize them.

HOW DOES WHAT YOUR STUDENTS LEARN

CONNECT TO THEIR FUTURE?

The month of November has given students the opportunity to give back to their community, whether it be through leaf raking, reading buddies, or a socktober fundraiser. Part of our focus in ACP is community service, and students at MMS are doing just that!

We all have dreams and visions for our lives, and making a plan to achieve those dreams is the first step for success. Goal setting is an important life-long skill, and looking back to the month of October, students were asked to write academic, personal, and career exploration goals for themselves. Through the goal-setting process, students learn that they have the capability of choosing their own path. Whether their goals are long term, like becoming a doctor, or short term, like landing a role in the school musical, setting goals and creating plans helps students develop self-regulation and determination.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS & HAPPENINGS

In November, Marinette Middle School held their parent teacher conferences. We appreciate all families that reached out to attend or connect with the school- THANK YOU! Your partnership with us helps make every learner successful! Here are some of the ways our schools connect with the community to share great things about our students;

  • Weekly grade level newsletters
  • Family and student engagement activities
  • Communication directly, or through Canvas or Skyward
  • Social Media posts
  • Radio communication such as 96.3

As always, please reach out to a teacher or staff member if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas. Thank you for being in contact and helping us support your students' well-being!

Skyward Contacts - It's crucial to keep your skyward information updated to ensure quick access in case your child is ill or during an emergency. You can update your information on Skyward or by email: sschwart@marinette.k12.wi.us, jhaldima@marinette.k12.wi.us

MMS lost & found has grown very large over the last few weeks. If you or your student is missing anything, please stop in our building office to claim your personal objects. Any items not claimed by Friday, January 10th will be brought to a local donation center.

cellphone.JPG

Student Cell Phone Use - For the 2024-2025 school year, MMS students will be expected to keep their cell phones turned off and put away in their lockers throughout the school day, including the lunch and recess period. We are hoping that this will assist our students with engaging in appropriate social activities during those periods and give our students a break from their screens.

chromebook care.JPG

Chromebook Care - Chromebooks are tools that our students need each and every day here at Marinette Middle School.  We are beginning to provide new students with cases for their Chromebooks.  Despite this we will continue to work with our students, and families, about how best to care for their equipment so that it can be available to them each day of the four years they are at Marinette Middle School.

Homework Help! - Did you know that we have an after school homework support program at Marinette Middle School? Yep…throughout the school year, students are able to work with two certified teachers who manage a quiet environment where students can complete daily assignments or get caught up with missing assignments. This is a support that can start the second week of school. If you would like more information, please reach out to Beth Horn at bhorn@marinette.k12.wi.us

Marinette Middle School office hours are 7:30am to 3:30pm.
