Supporting Students at Quarter End
As the first quarter of the school year comes to an end at Marinette Middle School, it’s an excellent time for families to pause, reflect, and help students finish strong. Reviewing your child’s grades, assignments, and teacher feedback together can open the door to positive conversations—celebrating successes while identifying areas for growth. This reflection helps students feel supported and motivated to improve. It’s also a good time to revisit routines that may have slipped during the first few months of school. Reestablishing consistent homework times, bedtime schedules, and limits on screen time can make a big difference in helping students stay organized and focused.
Encouraging your student to set one or two simple goals for the next quarter—such as improving in a specific subject or staying on top of assignments—can help build confidence and accountability. Staying connected with teachers and school staff is also key; they can offer valuable insights and strategies to support learning and growth. Finally, remind your student of the importance of balance—adequate rest, healthy meals, and time to relax are essential for academic and emotional well-being.
The end of the quarter isn’t just about grades—it’s an opportunity to reflect, reset, and move forward with purpose. If you have any questions or need additional support, please contact the Marinette Middle School main office at 715-735-1500.

Too Late Tuesday
At Marinette Middle School, being on time is a crucial component of student success. When students arrive at class promptly, they are better prepared to learn and contribute to a positive classroom environment.
To help support students in improving their punctuality, we will continue with a program called “Too Late Tuesday.” This program will resume on Monday, November 3, 2025 (the start of the 2nd quarter). Students who have three or more tardies in a week will participate in Too Late Tuesday during their lunch and recess time (the following week) with a staff member. During this time, students will:
- Eat lunch in a small group setting
- Work on organizational and time management skills
- Review school-wide expectations for being prepared and on time
Our goal is not to punish students but to help them develop habits that lead to success—both in school and beyond. We want every student to be in class, on time, and ready to learn when the bell rings.
Thank you for your support in reinforcing the importance of punctuality with your student. Together, we can ensure all students make the most of their learning time each day.

HOW DOES WHAT YOUR STUDENTS LEARN
CONNECT TO THEIR FUTURE?
| | |
The month of November is providing MMS students with many opportunities to give back to their community—whether through leaf raking, partnering as reading buddies, or serving others in our recycling program. Community service is an important part of our Academic and Career Planning (ACP) focus, and it’s inspiring to see students taking action and making a positive impact.
Just as students are learning to serve others, they are also learning to invest in their own growth. In October, students focused on goal setting—an essential life-long skill that helps turn dreams into achievable plans. They created academic, personal, and career exploration goals, recognizing that they have the power to shape their own futures. Whether their goals are long-term, like becoming a doctor, or short-term, like landing a role in the school musical, students are discovering the importance of self-regulation, determination, and persistence in achieving success.

MMS Values Family Engagement
During the month of November, MMS will be holding parent-teacher conferences. We appreciate all the families who reach out and partner with us to help make every learner successful!
Beyond our parent-teacher conferences, here are other ways our school invites families to engage in student learning:
- Weekly grade-level newsletters featuring academic updates and social activities
- Family engagement nights, such as our Fall Festival Dance (October 24) and the upcoming McTeacher Night (December 4)
-
Opportunities to check Skyward and Canvas to track student progress
- Social media posts that highlight events and celebrations happening around our school
As always, please reach out to a teacher or staff member if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas. Thank you for partnering with us to support your student and their well-being!

Homework Help! - Did you know that we have an after school homework support program at Marinette Middle School? Yep…throughout the school year, students are able to work with two certified teachers who manage a quiet environment where students can complete daily assignments or get caught up with missing assignments. This is a support that can start the second week of school. If you would like more information, please reach out to Beth Horn at bhorn@marinette.k12.wi.us
| | |
Skyward Contacts - It's crucial to keep your Skyward information updated to ensure quick access in case your child is ill or during an emergency. You can update your information on Skyward or by email: kwood@marinette.k12.wi.us and jhaldima@marinette.k12.wi.us

MMS lost & found - If you or your student is missing anything, please stop by our building office to claim your personal objects. Any items not claimed by December 4th will be brought to a local donation center.
| | |
Student Cell Phone Use - For the 2025-2026 school year, MMS students will be expected to keep their cell phones turned off and put away in their lockers throughout the school day, including the lunch and recess period. We are hoping that this will assist our students with engaging in appropriate social activities during those periods and give our students a break from their screens.
