OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS

MESSAGE FROM YOUR BUILDING LEADERS

At Marinette Middle School, students took the Aimsweb benchmark test in reading and math during the third week of school. Aimsweb is a tool we use to monitor students' progress and identify the skills they've mastered, as well as areas where they may require additional support. Think of it as a "snapshot" that helps teachers know how to support each student best.

Now that we have the results, we are using the information in two ways. For students who require additional practice, we offer targeted intervention support designed to develop essential skills. For students who are already ready for a challenge, we provide enrichment opportunities to help them continue to grow.

Our goal is to ensure that every student receives what they need to be successful. We'll continue to share updates with you throughout the year and encourage you to discuss your child's progress with them. Together, we can ensure that each child feels confident and supported throughout their learning journey.

If you have any questions about Aimsweb testing or your child's results, please do not hesitate to contact the Marinette Middle School main office at 715-735-1500.

Morning Drop-Off Reminders

To help keep our students safe and our mornings running smoothly, please review the following reminders:

  • Drop-off Time: Students should not be dropped off or arrive before 7:30 a.m., as staff supervision is not available until then.  School doors do NOT open before 7:30 a.m.

The start of the school day is 7:50 a.m.

  • Entryway Safety: Please keep the school entryway on Water Street clear before and after school. This space is reserved for buses and must remain open for safe loading and unloading.

  • Crossing Safety: Encourage your child to use the crosswalks and crossing guard when arriving and leaving school. This helps ensure all students cross streets safely.

  • Bikes and Scooters: Students who ride to school should ensure their bikes or scooters are locked up to keep them secure during the day.

Thank you for partnering with us to make arrival and dismissal safe and efficient for all students. Student safety is our number one priority!

STUDENT SERVICES

NURSES NOTES

Medications that need to be administered to our students are required to be in the original containers for both prescribed or over the counter medications. A medication form needs to be completed for each medication including cough drops. Medication forms may be found HERE.

HOW DOES WHAT YOUR STUDENTS LEARN

CONNECT TO THEIR FUTURE?

October is a busy and meaningful month in Academic and Career Planning (ACP)!

  • 5th Grade: Students will be engaging in the 7 Mindsets curriculum, which focuses on building positive habits, resilience, and a strong sense of community. In addition, they will launch Socktober, a fundraiser where students can donate socks to support those in need. This project gives students an early opportunity to experience the impact of giving back.
  • 6th–8th Grade: Middle school students will begin working in Xello, an online college and career readiness program. Xello empowers students to explore their interests and strengths while learning about future education and career pathways. The program allows students to work at their own pace as they set goals and begin thinking about the possibilities ahead.

Through ACP, students are not only planning for their futures but also developing character, leadership, and a commitment to serving others.

TEAM TALK

MMS fall sports are halfway through their schedule of competitions. A lot of hard work at practices is paying off in competitions! Around 100 athletes are participating in football, volleyball, and cross country!  Admission to home events is free for everyone, so come cheer for our Marines! Boys basketball will be starting in October. Open gyms will be on October 14, 15, 16, after school until 4:30. First practice October 20, with a parent meeting on October 21 at 5:00 pm.  In order to participate, athletes need a current physical on file (physical given on or after 4/2/24). Any questions, please email Mrs Johnston (sjohnsto@marinette.k12.wi.us)

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS & HAPPENINGS

Our school is proud to be a Title I Schoolwide Program, which means all students benefit from additional resources and support! Title I is a federal program that provides funding to schools to help ensure that every child has the opportunity to receive a high-quality education. With schoolwide Title I services, we can offer:

  • Extra help in reading and math
  • Additional classroom support
  • Professional development for teachers
  • Family engagement opportunities

Because we are a schoolwide program, these services are available to all students, not just those who need extra help. Title I helps us strengthen teaching and learning across the whole school! If you have questions or want to get involved, please reach out to the school for additional information.

Homework Help! - Did you know that we have an after school homework support program at Marinette Middle School? Yep…throughout the school year, students are able to work with two certified teachers who manage a quiet environment where students can complete daily assignments or get caught up with missing assignments. This is a support that can start the second week of school. If you would like more information, please reach out to Beth Horn at bhorn@marinette.k12.wi.us

Skyward Contacts - It's crucial to keep your Skyward information updated to ensure quick access in case your child is ill or during an emergency. You can update your information on Skyward or by email: kwood@marinette.k12.wi.us and jhaldima@marinette.k12.wi.us

MMS lost & found - If you or your student is missing anything, please stop in our building office to claim your personal objects. Any items not claimed by October 24th will be brought to a local donation center.

Student Cell Phone Use - For the 2025-2026 school year, MMS students will be expected to keep their cell phones turned off and put away in their lockers throughout the school day, including the lunch and recess period. We are hoping that this will assist our students with engaging in appropriate social activities during those periods and give our students a break from their screens.

Marinette Middle School office hours are 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Please call ahead for an appointment.
