happy holidays

Congratulations to all the students and their teachers who participated at the MTNA/MMTA State Competitions/Auditions at the University of Missouri last month! It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces at the audition site and winner’s recital. Our gratitude to the University of Missouri – Columbia and Peter Miyamoto for hosting this year’s events. Special thanks to Auditions Vice President, Jason Hausback who spent many hours planning and communicating with auditions chairs to help run the competitions smoothly. Kudos to the state and local auditions officials for their splendid work. I believe MMTA auditions continually provide a musical bond and inspiration to our music community.

Please join me in welcoming Hyungki Yoon as the new MMTA Co-Vice President of Auditions who will be working together with Jason Hausback. I feel blessed to be surrounded by a team of wonderful people on the MMTA board. The positions of VP Publications and Public Relations and MMTA Collegiate Auditions Chair are currently vacant. If you know of anyone who might be interested in these positions, please let me know.

We are in the process of finding the audition site for the 2022 MMTA conference. Our plan is to expand the conference by having more concerts and sessions. An ad-hoc committee has been formed with Nathanael May as chair to explore the possibility of having a chamber concert during the conference. We will also actively promote the poster sessions and other presentations to be included in next year’s conference.

Wishing you all a wonderful end of season and a prosperous 2022!

Warm regards,

Hye-Jung Hong, D.M.A.

President, Missouri Music Teachers Association of MTNA
