Congregational Meeting

There will be a special congregational meeting on April 14 at 12:00 noon to review and vote on adoption of some MMUUS Bylaws changes. These changes have been approved by the Board of Trustees. Copies of the proposed Bylaws changes will be available electronically and also in printed form in the office, so please watch for information about how to access the proposed new Bylaws.

Most changes are simply clarifications but three have more substance.

The first is the explicit ability to vote at congregational meetings by presence at the meeting or presence online. This so-called hybrid meeting structure was previously forbidden by NY state law but now is allowable. It will be essential to pass this in April if we are to allow and prepare for online voting at the upcoming Annual Meeting.

The second change of note is to make the Program Council optional, to be convened and used when it is deemed effective to do so. This second change is important to remain in compliance with the Bylaws and it will be accompanied by an ongoing Board review of the role played by the Program Council and the potential for meeting its goals by other means.

The third change is in response to a request on behalf of our youth, stating that young people over the age of 12 and educated in RE program may qualify to sign the membership book and become May Memorial members, subject to some conditions. One of the conditions is that they cannot be voting members until they reach age 16 (per state law).

Please plan to attend this meeting on April 14th.

Unirondack Camperships available!

Parents of May Memorial youth who are attending Unirondack 2024 summer camp can apply for a Campership (scholarship) to help pay the tuition for the week.

In addition, Camperships from the camp itself are available through the Unirondack website.

Did you know? If your employer has a FSA (Flexible Spending Account) for childcare, you can often use that money for summer camp tuition!

Interested in applying? Send an email to Stephanie Cross mscross1234@gmail.com and

Stacy Sceiford stacymaydre@gmail.com to request the assistance.

Our OnGoing Partnership with Gethsemane Methodist Church

We are in awe of the generosity our congregation is showing in supporting our mission with Gethsemane Church and the donations that are coming in for the vital work at the Interreligious Food Consortium.

This week the following is needed to fill 5 bags of personal care items at Gethsemane (to add to the 50 they are generally able to hand out): boxes of tissues, clothes detergent (42 oz). Please get the designated amounts so the containers can fit into the white plastic bag. The Dollar stores have all of these items for $1.25!

Please let me know if you would like me to shop for you…I have become very knowledgable about the many perks at the Dollar Tree! You can contact me by email: jdanielyoga@gmail.com or call/text: 315 729-8179 (Julie Daniel)

Other items needed: preschool picture books; clean, gently used clothing for adults and kids; baking supplies (ie: flour, sugar, oil, spices, herbs, cake mixes, etc)

And to quote Martin Luther King, Jr…..’Everybody can be great because everybody can serve”

Thank you!!

Julie Daniel, Kevin King, Mardie Ninno
