We in the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod walk together under the cross in doctrine and practice with the shared foundation of Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions. We believe that every congregation equally possesses the gifts of Christ and all authority begins and ends with her proclamation and soul care work. Therefore, every congregation and pastor has equal opportunity to participate in the business of the wider Church.
This summer, July 18–23, we will meet in Phoenix, Arizona (yikes, hot!) for the LCMS National Convention. Saints from around the Synod will set the direction for our shared work, for the sake of the mission and mercy of each congregation. Our time will be saturated in God’s Word through worship, Bible study, mutual consolation of one another, and prayerful consideration of resolutions that help preserve and promote our unity in Christ. The time is a blessing as we see how God is bearing fruit by His Word to all nations!
One of the most important responsibilities prior to convention is voting for the Synod President. This vote takes place online, but every congregation must register at least 90 days prior to participate. Currently, only 27% of Minnesota North District congregations have registered. In the last election cycle, 65% of congregations registered (still not high enough, in my view). I ask that as many congregations register as possible, but we need to act quickly. The hard deadline for registration is March 8.
Every congregation should have received the registration letter mailed in October. If you have misplaced your letter, please contact the LCMS Office of the Secretary directly at lcmspresidentvote@lcms.org or (314) 996-1417.
For any general questions about this process, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Diana Ruopp in the District office at (218) 829-1781 or diana.ruopp@mnnlcms.org.
