Hello Adventurous Gunners,
For the Mar 10 Adventure, 27 shooters rousted 6 bad guys hiding behind curtains and barrels. Thanks to all who helped with the stage set-up and take-down. Tim Wittmer joined us as a new shooter.
Safety
Thanks to everyone for observing the safety protocols. Our trigger finger comments during the briefing must have put the fear of God into everyone because they we all straight out and visible. Keep up the good work!
Observations
We expected the barrels to take some hits, but that never happened. Several shooters struggled to keep the curtains out of the way while they fired. Some resorted to holding the curtain back with their off hand and shooting one-handed. Regrettably, two shooters put a round through it. Successful shooters generally were those who pushed the gun well past the curtain, about up to their elbow.
New Procedure: Spotters
As mentioned during the briefing, we need more eyes on the shooters to insure that penalties are called consistently and fairly. It's not that we are eager to punish someone. Quite the opposite; we would love to see zero penalties. So it is important that shooters know when they are making mistakes so they can correct them. With just the timer and scorekeeper watching, often their view is obscured as the shooter moves through the course, and many errors, mostly related to safety, go undetected.
So starting this week, we will assign spotters from the roster whose job it is to watch the shooter from each end of the line. At the beginning of each run we will call out the names of the shooter, the on-deck, in-the-hole, and the next two names in the roster order as spotters. So the job will rotate through the roster and everyone will take a turn. We will cover the spotter role in the pre-match briefing,
