Dear MNTC Tennis Family,
I write to you with a status update. William & Mary’s strict safety guidelines have been successful thus far keeping cases down and allowing students to remain on campus. Although it has been challenging being closed to the public, the staff is working hard to safely serve our tennis community outdoors and in alternative capacities. We also continue to stay engaged with our professional organization and learn more about creative opportunities.
We recently attended the Virtual annual USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association) World Conference to continue learning and growing to provide you with innovative coaching and Coach Neely was awarded the National USPTA 2020 Elevate award which recognizes a USPTA Professional who, through their tennis-teaching and volunteer spirit, has increased opportunities for others to participate in tennis. We are also tremendously thankful to have held a couple ACEing Autism clinics in the area & will be hosting a fall clinic November 21st. MNTC has an orange, green and yellow Junior Team Tennis team competing in the Richmond League. The orange and green team are undefeated. The new curriculum introduced has been well received by the coaching team and players, which offers a progression based annual program that covers technical/tactical, movement, mind-set with fun training blocks to develop the complete player.
We have also formed a new partnership with Chris Trizzino, who recently moved to Williamsburg. Chris has a wealth of experience and knowledge as a former tour player and tour coach and he has been busy developing players and programming outdoors locally since his arrival. He has already made significant improvements with all of the players he is working with. He has taken 6 of our players to tournaments the past couple weekends with great results including a tournament win and two semi-finalists. With the addition of Chris, we will be able to offer a complete High Performance Pathway for our students. We look forward to Chris officially joining our team at MNTC once we are able to re-open. Please note that coaches are still available as independent professionals at local courts in an effort to keep you playing.
Racquet stringing services and merchandise purchases can be made at MNTC by appointment only by contacting me directly at 757-221-7378.
