Message From Our Executive Director, Greg Stuart

Welcome to this week's edition of Mobility Monday! The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization’s commitment to environmental stewardship drives much of our work to plan and fund our future transportation system. Last week the 14th Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit brought together key local and regional leaders, scientists, and activists to forge our path forward in the fight against climate change. The Regional Climate Action Plan 3.0 highlights the connection between the implementation of complete streets, walkable communities, and mass transit with decarbonization goals. Urgent action is needed to prevent the worst-case scenarios and protect our infrastructure from future disasters. Regional collaboration and leadership are the only way forward.

Broward MPO Team Attends Climate Summit

Last week, our team at the Broward MPO participated in the 14th Annual Southeast Florida Climate Leadership Summit where they learned about best practices and how communities are addressing climate change and transitioning to net zero. The Annual Climate Leadership Summit is a major regional event hosted by the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact to share knowledge, showcase climate action, engage leadership across sectors, and mobilize the collaboration needed to tackle this significant challenge at scale. The summit attracts innovative thinkers and leaders from the business, government, academic, and the nonprofit community to exchange dialogue and ideas on expanding the region’s capacity to respond to climate challenges and build climate resilience.

Help Us Plan Future Projects!

Graduated Projects Bring Sidewalk and Bike Lane Improvements to City of Oakland Park

The latest project is a series of bike lane and sidewalk improvement project. In the City of Oakland Park’s Lakeside community. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is the lead agency on this project, which is part of the Broward MPO’s Complete Streets and other Localized Initiatives Program (CSLIP). We will bring you more information as the project progresses and we receive important construction updates from FDOT to share. In order to track project progress and increase transparency to the public, the Broward MPO produces a list of projects that have “graduated” as a supplemental document to the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). “Graduated” means that all of the project’s financial capital needs have been fulfilled and the project no longer requires additional funding.
