MOBILITY MONDAY

Message From Executive Director, Greg Stuart

Last week was a very busy one for the Broward MPO! Not only did we host the 2023 Safe Streets Summit, but we also recognized the best in transportation at our 2023 State of the Region Annual Awards! It was inspiring to learn more about the exceptional work our MPO members have been undertaking to create a safer, more efficient and accessible transportation system in Broward County. The success stories shared serve as reminders of our commitment to our communities and dedication to collaboration in the planning process. We had the honor of hosting a resiliency tour with Andrew Wishnia, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Climate Policy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy in the U.S. Department of Transportation. We were joined on the tour by the South Florida Water Management District team to showcase how Broward County has stepped up to provide long-term strategies for implementing regional resiliency. We look forward to another productive week at the Broward MPO. Together, we can continue to build the necessary infrastructure, make better use of technology and transportation systems, and develop strategies to build more resilient communities in South Florida.

2023 Safe Streets Summit Brought Together

Transportation Experts From Around the World

The 2023 Safe Streets Summit, South Florida’s premier Complete Streets event focused on promoting and creating healthier, safer, and more vibrant communities, took place last week and the Broward MPO served as the event host this year. The Broward MPO created this event in 2014 to bring policymakers, technical staff, and interested parties to the table and start a conversation on taking completed street projects from planning through implementation. The Summit expanded in 2017 to include the MPO's counterparts, Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) and Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency (TPA), to emphasize the importance of partnerships in creating a safe and accessible transportation system for all users region-wide. Today, the Safe Streets Summit remains a collaborative effort between the Miami-Dade TPO, the Broward MPO, and the Palm Beach TPA rotating between counties. A heartfelt thank you to our Platinum Sponsors TYLin, WSP, South Florida Commuter Services, and EXP, along with many others, for their support of this event!

Broward MPO Takes Deputy Assistant Secretary Andrew Wishnia on Resiliency Tour

We had the honor of hosting a resiliency tour with Andrew Wishnia, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Climate Policy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy in the U.S. Department of Transportation. We were joined on the tour by the team at the South Florida Water Management District to showcase how Broward County is working to provide long-term strategies and solutions for regional resiliency. This includes enhanced building codes and local policy initiatives, sea level rise mapping, and local governments taking a leadership role in providing sea level rise resilience to coastal properties. These steps ensure Broward County is well-positioned to take advantage of both the economic and environmental benefits that resiliency projects provide. Thank you to Chief Resiliency Officer Dr. Carolina Maran, and supervisors Corrie Boyd, and Felipe Alvarez for making this tour such a great educational experience for everyone!
