MOBILITY MONDAY

Message From Executive Director, Greg Stuart

Typically, being in the top ten of a list is something to brag about. Not when the list is most pedestrian and bike injuries and fatalities. South Florida is consistently in the top ten metro areas for most dangerous roads, joined by almost every other city in Florida. The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is making investments today to save lives tomorrow. Providing safe well marked bike lanes, slowing traffic through smart design, and intersection improvements that allow both cars and pedestrians to cross safely have been implemented and will continue to be throughout Broward. We cannot solve this problem through engineering alone. We need all users – drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians – to be vigilant and respectful of everyone using our roads. The Broward MPO partnered with Broward County Government to pursue a federal grant to assess the road safety of the entire county. If successful, we will be one step closer to not being in the top ten and hopefully reaching our ultimate goal of zero pedestrian and bike fatalities.
