A second phase is poised to continue north of the New River and through our north Broward cities, with local stations dotting the route along the way. With a shared vision for this project, we are a step closer to meeting residents’ and businesses’ needs for improved mobility-- moving people, creating jobs, and strengthening our communities.
On behalf of the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization, I’d like to thank the Broward County Commission, the Florida Department of Transportation, regional stakeholders, and our engaged community members for their collaboration. Without the unwavering commitment of all of our regional partners to bring high-quality improvements to our transportation system, this consensus and step forward would not have been possible. Now we must see it through to completion.
Once the resolution adopting the main elements of the proposal is brought to the commission in August, the Broward MPO will work in tandem with the county, FDOT, and our federal partners to pursue grant funding, working together to bring tax dollars back to our region and inject them back into our local economy. By investing in this and other public transit projects, we can give more options to our residents. As climate change, congestion, and rising housing and fuel costs threaten our way of life in South Florida, high-quality public transportation can address our most urgent concerns while creating a better, more just community. Let’s get this train rolling!
