Message From Our Executive Director, Greg Stuart
Happy Labor Day! The latest edition of our Mobility Monday newsletter is here, and this week we're talking about safety in and around school zones. The new school year brings student drop-off lines that slow our morning commutes to work, with neighborhoods livened by children walking and biking to school. In this country, vehicle incidents are now the second leading cause of death for children. The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization invests in a safe transportation system to ensure our most vulnerable are protected. But it takes a village: the responsibility is on all of us to ensure they get to school and back in one piece.

Six Tips for School Zone Safety
In school zones, motorists must slow down to the marked speed limit.
Motorists must yield to a stopped school bus! Failure to yield is a moving violation.
In a school zone, when flashers are blinking, yield to pedestrians who are crossing.
Always stop for a school patrol officer or crossing guard holding up a stop sign.
Look out for children in school zones, near playgrounds, parks and residential areas.
When entering a school zone, be sure to slow down and obey all traffic laws.
