 |  | Happy Monday! It's that time of the year again when we all celebrate Labor Day, a time to appreciate all the hard work we've done and just relax. For most of us, it means going to the beach, grilling some burgers, and just enjoying time with friends and family. However, we must not forget the importance of staying safe this weekend. Do not drink and drive and follow all traffic laws. There will be increased police presence and checkpoints all around Broward County to ensure everyone’s safety. Additionally, avoid distractions while driving and use your seatbelt at all times. Keep an eye out for other drivers on the road and do your part to keep yourself, your passengers, and other road users safe. If you plan on consuming alcohol, it's best to have a designated driver or use ride-share services such as Uber or Lyft. These services provide a safe way for you and your loved ones to get home. Beachgoers can stay safe by being mindful of ocean currents and riptides. Make sure to always swim in areas where lifeguards are present and pay attention to any warnings they may have. Do not swim alone. It's also important to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure. The Florida sun can be brutal, and heatstroke is no joke. Pay attention to railroad crossings and check out our Don't Risk It video here, and be careful driving around construction projects in Broward County especially around the 595 construction areas. A special thank you to the construction workers! On another note, thank you for reading last week’s Mobility Monday, I got a lot of comments about commuter rail. The Broward MPO has partnered with Movin'On Connect, a business-led consortium by Michelin, to make life-changing connections in Broward County, and we hosted a kick-off for this new partnership last week! Through innovative pilot projects, the disadvantaged communities in central Broward will have access to the countless employment opportunities generated by Port Everglades. And the benefits don't stop there - Port Everglades generates more than $33 billion in annual business activity and supports over 9,000 local jobs! Plus, we'll be extending our efforts to surrounding businesses along the 17th Street corridor. The Southeast Florida Transportation Council’s (SEFTC) website has been refreshed. With an updated look and content, the website aims to provide a user-friendly experience for all users. One of the highlights of the updated website is the introduction of the Southeast Florida 2050 RTP with an introductory fact sheet provided in three languages (English, Spanish, and Creole). This visionary 25-year horizon long-range plan identifies the most crucial transportation investments required to meet the ever-growing travel demands for a vibrant region, encompassing Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
