Message From Executive Director, Greg Stuart 

It's a new fiscal year for us here at the Broward MPO, and we are making strides in transportation with various projects in the pipeline. This is thanks to several grants. We just wrapped up our Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant, constructing pedestrian and bike-friendly facilities and creating vital links throughout the county. The $5 million Safe Streets for All grant is a collaboration between the MPO and Broward County to design safer, more walkable communities for all residents. The recently awarded $15.4 million Rail Crossing Elimination Program will upgrade 21 Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway grade crossings to the highest level of safety. Lastly, the Thriving Communities grant will train staff throughout our county to implement affordable transit-oriented development. These grants expand upon the MPO’s commitments to meet our community's transportation needs. We can look forward to a better future for all Broward residents with safer streets and better transportation options.

While these grants mark an important beginning for the new fiscal year, the MPO will not stop there. We will continue collaborating with our partners (local government entities, non-profits, and other community organizations) to provide sustainable and inclusive transportation. It is essential to acknowledge that transportation and community development are not separate. By utilizing all resources, the MPO has the chance to deliver the needs of its residents and promote growth throughout the county. So, let us look forward to what the MPO has in store for the new year, and the positive changes are yet to come! I'd also like to take a moment to wish everyone a happy Fourth of July holiday. As you celebrate this day, we encourage everyone to keep safe while traveling!

Would you like to see your tax dollars at work, and provide input on how you would like your money distributed? The public review comment period for the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for Fiscal Year 2024-2028 is now open through Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 12:00 pm EST.

Broward MPO Celebrates Hollywood Boulevard Complete Streets Project🚶🏾

Thank you to the City of Hollywood and everyone who attended last week's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the Hollywood Boulevard Complete Streets Improvement Project! We are thrilled to work with municipalities like Hollywood to bring more multi-modal transportation and parking options, pedestrian-friendly walkways, and beautiful landscaping to the city!

From City Hall Circle to Dixie Highway, Hollywood Boulevard is now more accessible, safe, and beautiful than ever! Whether walking, biking, or driving, we hope you enjoy the new improvements and all Hollywood offers! Thanks again to all who joined us for this momentous occasion! Stay Safe Around Railroad Tracks This July 4th! 🎆

The Fourth of July is right around the corner and the Broward MPO wants to remind you to stay safe around railroad tracks. With Independence Day celebrations happening all around us, we must remember that trains will still run on their usual schedules. We’ve compiled some helpful tips to keep in mind while near train tracks:



• Follow posted signs and signals: The first and most important rule regarding railroad safety is to obey all posted signs and signals. These are in place to protect you and help prevent accidents.

• Stay off railroad property: It is illegal to be on railroad property unless you are authorized to be there. Stay clear of railroad tracks or equipment, including the ballast rock and the area around the tracks.

• Keep a safe distance from trains: Trains can’t swerve, stop quickly, or change directions easily. If you’re too close, the train won’t be able to stop in time to avoid hitting you. Never cross tracks except at a designated crossing.

• Listen and look for trains: Trains can come from either direction at any time, so stay alert when around tracks. Turn off any headphones or electronic devices and pay attention to your surroundings.

• Do not trespass on the tracks: Never use the tracks as a shortcut, a photo opportunity, or for any other reason. Railroad tracks and the surrounding property are private, and entering them without permission is considered trespassing.



The Broward MPO wants to ensure everyone has a fun and safe Fourth of July celebration. Remember these tips while around railroad tracks and remember to stay alert, and always be aware of your surroundings. Happy Fourth of July!
