BROWARD MPO IN ACTION

Route to 2050 MTP Survey:

The Results Are In!

The results of the Broward MPO Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) survey are in, and they paint an optimistic picture of the county's future transportation system. Over 1,800 residents of Broward County and neighboring areas took the survey, which aimed to gauge public opinion on the county's transportation needs. The survey was a part of the Broward MPO's efforts to update the MTP, which serves as a long-term vision for transportation in the county. The survey asked respondents about their transportation habits and needs, as well as their priorities for future transportation improvements. Not surprisingly, traffic congestion and safety emerged as major concerns for Broward County residents. Many respondents expressed frustration with long commutes and unpredictable travel times. Respondents shared how they want the MPO to focus on prioritizing enhancing our transit network. There was also strong support for biking and walking, with many respondents citing the health and environmental benefits of these modes of transportation. Overall, the survey results suggest that Broward County residents are eager for a more robust and diversified transportation system. The Broward MPO will use this feedback to develop a transportation plan that meets the needs and preferences of the community. As the county continues to grow and change, it's important to prioritize transportation solutions that are efficient, equitable, and sustainable. The results of this survey offer a promising starting point for achieving these goals. Click here to learn more about the MTP.

5 Ways to Beat the Heat This Summer

The sun is out, the humidity is high, and the heat is simply unbearable! South Florida is known for its sunshine and warm weather, but this year's heatwave has been one for the books. If you are struggling to beat the heat, you're not alone. Thankfully, we've put together some top tips to help you stay cool, comfortable, and hydrated during this unprecedented heatwave.

Tip 1: Stay Hydrated

This tip cannot be emphasized enough. It's crucial to keep yourself hydrated during this heatwave. Drink lots of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks, as they can lead to dehydration. You can also eat fruits with high water content like watermelon and cucumbers.

Tip 2: Dress Appropriately

Loose, light-colored, and lightweight clothes are the way to go during a heatwave. Clothing made of cotton and linen are breathable and keep you cooler than synthetic materials. Keep your head covered with a hat or scarf and avoid tight-fitting clothes that trap heat.

Tip 3: Stay Indoors

The sun's heat is most intense from midday to late afternoon. If you don't need to go outside during those hours, then don't. If you need to get out, take advantage of shady areas or walk along streets with buildings that block the sun. Consider taking advantage of air-conditioned indoor areas like shopping malls, libraries, or museums.

Tip 4: Keep Your Living Space Cool

Make sure your living space is properly insulated to keep cool air in and hot air out. Turn on your air conditioner if you have one or invest in an affordable fan. Keep your curtains closed during the day to keep the sun's heat from entering your home. Open the windows at night to allow cool air to circulate in your home.

Tip 5: Be Mindful of Your Health

Prolonged exposure to heat can cause heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which can be life-threatening. Symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and fast breathing or heartbeat. If you experience any of these symptoms, move to a cool, air-conditioned place, rest, and drink plenty of fluids. It's essential to take steps to stay cool, comfortable, and hydrated during this unprecedented heatwave. Staying hydrated, dressing appropriately, staying indoors, keeping your living space cool, and being mindful of your health are some tips that will help you beat the heat. Stay safe and healthy during this heatwave!
