At the Broward MPO, we understand that fathers are essential to building strong families, and we want to recognize all of the sacrifices they make for their children. We believe fathers should be celebrated not just on Father’s Day, but every day of the year. To all the amazing dads out there, we want to wish you a happy Father’s Day. You have inspired us, encouraged us, and supported us throughout our lives. You are the true superheroes of our world, and we are grateful for everything you do. So, on June 18, take some time to celebrate all of the fathers and father figures in your life. Let them know how much they mean to you and show them just how much you appreciate them. Happy Father’s Day!

Greg Stuart Wins National Association

of Regional Councils (NARC) Award 🏆

We’re on a winning streak! 🏆 Last week, the Broward MPO was honored with multiple awards at the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) conference. Executive Director Greg Stuart was announced as the recipient of the highly coveted President's Award. This accolade is an incredible testament to Greg's decades of unwavering dedication and contribution to transportation planning and advocacy for Broward County.

Throughout his career, Greg has worked diligently to elevate the Broward MPO to become a respected and nationally recognized leader in transportation planning. His strategic vision has enabled the MPO to develop a strong transportation plan that balances the community's needs while still considering environmental factors, public input, and equitable access to various transportation modes. Greg has tirelessly promoted collaboration and partnership with local and state officials to create an inclusive approach to mobility.

The President's Award is the most prestigious honor bestowed by NARC, and it recognizes extraordinary individuals who have demonstrated leadership and vision in improving the quality of life in their community. It's no surprise that Greg was the one selected for this prestigious award! NARC also shined a spotlight on our “Vision 2100” project, which was honored with the 2023 Achievement Award. This award is a well-deserved achievement for the whole Broward MPO team.

Broward MPO Selected to Receive

Federal Funding for Rail Safety Projects

Exciting news! 🎉We're thrilled to announce that the Broward MPO has been selected to receive funding through the Railroad Crossing Elimination Program. We had the pleasure of hosting Jennifer Mitchell, deputy administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration, to make the announcement on June 8 in our boardroom.

The objective of the program is to improve safety and mobility by funding highway-rail and pathway-rail grade crossing improvement projects. We're honored to be one of the 63 projects selected across 32 states. We're looking forward to utilizing this funding to enhance safety at rail crossings throughout Broward County! Wait a Minute! Don't Risk It! 🛑

Before you hit the gas and cross those tracks, take a minute to think. On average, a Brightline train takes 60 seconds to go through a crossing. In those same 60 seconds, you take ten deep breaths, listen to a song, or finish your coffee. 

You shouldn’t try to beat the train. For what? To save 60 seconds? When you eventually have to wait for a train, take that time as a moment to yourself. Your life is worth more than 60 seconds.

Our "Don't Risk It" campaign is a powerful reminder that waiting for a train is worth it when it comes to saving lives. Let's all pledge to prioritize safety and spread the word! Click here to learn more! 

Broward MPO "Builds a Better Mousetrap"

for Vision Zero Efforts

The Broward MPO’s new Off-System Safety Program entry has been selected as the winner for the 2022 Florida Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Center “Build a Better Mousetrap” competition in the “Innovative Project” category. Our entry is one of three that will go on to compete at a national level. In partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Broward County, the Broward MPO developed this safety program to support its Vision Zero efforts.
