MOBILITY MONDAY

Message From Executive Director, Greg Stuart

Juneteenth is a momentous day in the history of the United States. It marks the liberation of African Americans from bondage. More than 250,000 individuals were freed on June 19th when news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached Texas. Juneteenth is a day to celebrate the joy of freedom and remember the long, arduous path it took to achieve. Here at Broward MPO, we wholeheartedly believe in the power of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Our mission is to strive for a society that is equitable and inclusive. We know that a workforce comprised of a diverse group of individuals is fundamental for our success. Having individuals with varying backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives can lead to far more innovative solutions than relying on one singular source. This is why we remain devoted to maintaining an environment of inclusivity and respect, regardless of someone's race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, or disability. Therefore, we strive to bring balance and fairness by taking action in several ways, including conducting assessments on equity, granting resources to communities in need, and prioritizing projects that will benefit the most vulnerable. Ensuring that everyone is included and has a chance to be heard is vital. We seek to collect feedback and perspectives from various community members when making decisions regarding transportation projects that will affect the whole population. We are confident that our efforts will genuinely reflect the needs of the entire community. DEI is integral to the mission of the Broward MPO, and we are devoted to creating a transportation system that works for everyone. Even though there is still work to be done, this Juneteenth, we honor the significance of the day and celebrate freedom while re-committing ourselves to the ideals of DEI and envisioning a brighter future for all.
