MOBILITY MONDAY

Message From Executive Director, Greg Stuart

Hurricane season is always a time of unease for Floridians. Living in Broward County, we're no strangers to the devastation a storm can bring. However, it's crucial to remember that preparedness is key to staying safe during a hurricane. The first step in preparing for a hurricane is to create an emergency plan. Establish a meeting point with family or friends outside of the affected area, create a list of emergency contacts, and familiarize yourself with the evacuation routes in your neighborhood. If you plan to evacuate by car, make sure you have a full tank of gas. If you do not plan to drive and will use transit, check on the evacuation options and find out when Broward County Transit and Tri-Rail will stop offering service. Check your local news regularly for updates and keep a weather radio on hand. If you're asked to evacuate, leave as soon as possible, and never underestimate the strength of a hurricane. It's always better to err on the side of caution and prepare for the worst. Lastly, don't forget about your pets! They're family too and should be included in your emergency plan. Have a plan for their evacuation or shelter in place and make sure you have enough food and water for them as well. Hurricane season is not something to take lightly, but with proper preparation, you can help keep yourself, your loved ones, and your property safe during a storm. Together, we can weather any storm that comes our way. Click here to access the county's resource guide. Stay safe, Broward County!

BROWARD MPO IN ACTION

Cities of Sunrise and Weston Celebrate Ribbon Cutting and Community Bike Ride

On June 3rd, residents joined representatives from the Florida Department of Transportation, the Broward MPO, and the cities of Sunrise and Weston for a day of festivities to celebrate the completion of the Weston Road Mobility Project. This initiative was aimed at improving pedestrian and bike access along Weston Road from Indian Trace to State Road (SR) 84. One of the most exciting parts of the celebration was the Community Bike Ride, which took participants on a guided tour of the new bike lanes, paths, and signage that have been implemented as part of the project. As longtime bike riders and supporters of safe cycling, it was wonderful to see so many community members of all ages come together to ride and explore the new routes.

Broward MPO Participates in History Fort Lauderdale Pride Month Event 🏳‍🌈💜

June is Pride Month, and we are excited to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community! Our Deputy Executive Director, Carol Henderson, kicked off the celebrations last week at the History Fort Lauderdale "Take Pride" event, along with Rozeta Mahboubi, Broward Regional Director for the Florida Lodging and Restaurant Association; Chris Caputo, commissioner in the city of Wilton Manors; Pat Rayburn, an attorney and History Fort Lauderdale board member; Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis; and Philip Dunlap, director of Broward County's Cultural Division. At the Broward MPO, inclusivity is one of our core principles. We believe every individual should be valued, regardless of their race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or culture.
