MOBILITY MONDAY

Message From Executive Director, Greg Stuart

The rapid shift to electric vehicles (EVs) is driven by growing concern over climate change and the need to reduce carbon emissions. The Broward MPO has responded by looking for clean and sustainable transportation alternatives, which EVs can provide. They have zero emissions and much higher energy efficiency than traditional cars. Major automakers are investing in the development of this technology and governments are offering incentives to the public to make the switch. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill includes investments in EV infrastructure, such as charging stations and research into battery technology. For further details, I invite you to explore MPO's EV webpage.

Broward MPO Annual Federal Certification

Process Begins in April

Every four years, our partners at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) undertake an evaluation of our agency as part of their Transportation Management Area (TMA) Certification Review. This evaluation, which begins in April, examines everything that we work on, from transportation planning and public outreach, to financial stability and upcoming projects. We invite you to share your opinion on our efforts! Please email us at info@browardmpo.org with your feedback by May 12. We look forward to hearing from you!

City of Coconut Creek Stakeholder Survey is Live

The City of Coconut Creek and the Broward MPO are conducting a study to develop a mobility hub in the MainStreet area of Coconut Creek. A mobility hub is a place of connectivity where different modes of transportation – from walking, buses, trains, scooters, and bikes – come together seamlessly and where there is an intensive concentration of working, living, shopping and/or playing. MainStreet is a vision for a mixed-use, downtown development in the center of Coconut Creek, bound by Wiles Road to the north, Lyons Road to the east, Sample Road to the south, and State Road 7 to the west. Today, the area is already a regional destination, home to the Seminole Casino and The Promenade. This exploratory study will consider ways to address transportation needs to and around the area, resulting in infrastructure recommendations that can be built immediately or constructed as new development occurs. Please share your feedback about what makes you feel comfortable walking and biking, how you travel to and from the area today, and what you would like to see in the future. You can access the survey by clicking this survey link or copying and pasting it into your web browser: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KS5RLTW. When you are finished, you will also be asked to provide location-based comments on our study area web map here: https://maps.kittelson.com/CoconutCreekMoHub.

Join Us on March 28 for a Discussion About Mobility Hubs with the Institute of Transportation Engineers

Mobility hubs serve a critical function in the regional transportation system as origin/destination and transfer points. The amount and density of development feeds off the availability of and interaction between the various modes. Because mobility hubs may include many travel modes, they are prime opportunities for the application of technology innovations, including bike sharing and scooter sharing stations, carsharing and transportation network companies (TNCs), travel information, fare payment apps, and more. This webinar will provide an overview of the April 2022 ITE Technical Brief on Mobility Hubs, as well as share case studies on successful mobility hub planning and implementation from around the country. James Cromar, deputy executive director of mobility initiatives will serve on a panel of experts who will outline their approach and lessons learned in advancing mobility hubs in their local communities.
