MOBILITY MONDAY

Message From Executive Director, Greg Stuart

Happy Monday! In this edition of "Mobility Monday," I'd like to take the opportunity to congratulate our PIO team on winning five national Communicator Awards for their community outreach work on behalf of the agency. I'm so proud of this team, led by our Deputy Executive Director of Intergovernmental & Outreach, Carol Henderson. We won an Award of Excellence for our new "Let's Talk Transportation" podcast, and an Award of Distinction for our "Mobility Monday" weekly newsletter, among other projects. Our PIO team works hard every day to educate the public about our agency and the projects we fund. In fact, on Thursday, May 18, we invite you to join us at 6:00 p.m. for an engaging eTownhall discussion on the Route to 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). The virtual event will feature panelists from government agencies including Broward County Commissioner Beam Furr; and from the private sector like Candace Gomez-Cluck, senior strategic advisor for sustainability and mobility at Michelin. We'll have an interactive dialogue around the new technologies helping make streets smarter and more secure. As we draw closer to the event, we'll share more details here and on social media - follow us to stay in the know. We're on a fast-track to making Broward streets better using new and emerging technologies, and your participation will pave the way to a brighter future. Let's do this together! May 8 is National Free Trade Day

Today is National Free Trade Day! Every year on May 8, Free Trade Day is celebrated, signifying a trade policy which allows the free exchange of goods and services with no import or export restrictions. Today we're spotlighting our Freight Transportation Advisory Committee (FTAC). FTAC is comprised of members directly involved in the flow, storage and distribution of freight. Representing a broad array of the freight industry, FTAC is made up of members and advisors from the following areas: warehouses, industrial real estate, shipping and trucking companies, railways, freight forwarders, importers and exporters, truck parking, and distribution organizations. The MPO created FTAC to provide a space for open discussion where the freight industry can learn more about the MPO's projects and decisions, and to ensure decision makers consider industry feedback and preferences when it comes to freight transportation priorities and investments.
