 |  | During the holiday season, whether you're clicking "checkout" for a great online deal on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, or making a traditional shopping run, take a moment to think about how these products end up on your doorstep or the store shelves. Here at the MPO, we refer to it as the magic of freight and logistics. Freight, simply put, is the transportation of goods and commodities from one place to another. This essential industry ensures every product we purchase arrives on time. Every item, whether it is a gift for a loved one, food for your holiday meal, or decorations for your living room, must travel – usually vast distances – to get to you. As you enjoy your holiday shopping and celebrations, remember that your purchases are brought to you by this vital industry, one that is particularly busy during the holidays. Over the next couple of months, trucks, ships, trains, and airplanes will be hard at work, carrying not only holiday cheer but an impressive volume of goods across the country. Cyber Monday, a modern retail phenomenon, is a day to celebrate the essential role of freight. Millions of transactions and product deliveries occur smoothly thanks to a robust freight system. Outside of holiday shopping, digital commerce is surging, increasing our dependence on freight even further, making the efficient and effective management of freight logistics even more essential. At the Broward MPO, we understand that freight's efficiency and reliability underpin our region's economic vitality and quality of life. We remain committed to supporting effective freight planning, investing in freight infrastructure, and enhancing partnerships to ensure goods movement keeps pace with our changing world. The vibrancy of our holiday celebrations is, to a significant degree, owed to the successful operation of our nation's freight industry. So, when you open those holiday purchases, consider the incredible journey they have made, powered by the tireless work of the freight sector and all its employees. Digital Twin Being Developed
in Partnership with the Broward MPO

The Broward MPO recognizes the need for a more informed approach to planning in a region increasingly affected by complex, emerging and interrelated factors. The risk of sea level rise and flooding events will, over time, negatively affect private investment, economic growth and job creation. This presents the Broward MPO with an opportunity to advance the state of its planning practice through development of a Digital Twin – a system of integrated analytic tools and shared data sources that power models. This generates the insight needed for diverse, equitable and effective public and private investment in the region’s transportation system. The goal of this investment is job creation and an enhanced quality of life for all residents. The Broward MPO is taking the first step to grasp this opportunity and initiate a new paradigm by establishing requirements for the Digital Twin’s integrated models and associated data sources that will inform future procurement and systematic application of next generation analytic tools and data. What’s Next on the Agenda? | |
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, Wednesday, November 22, the Technical Advisory Committee meeting has been moved to Wednesday, November 29. The Technical Advisory Committee will be reviewing the Complete Streets and Other Localized Initiatives Program (CSLIP) Cycle 8 Priority List of Projects. This competitive grant program can fund projects such as, but not limited to, Complete Streets projects, traffic-calming and intersection improvements, Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades, Mobility Hubs, bike racks and technology advancements such as transit signal priority and traffic control devices. A total of 19 applications were ranked from 14 local agencies. The final rankings will be presented during the meeting. That agenda, when posted, will be available for review by clicking here. The Citizens’ Advisory Committee on November 29 meeting has been cancelled. | |
Broward MPO Team Participates in Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit | |
The Broward MPO was a proud sponsor of the 15th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit, which was held in Miami Beach last week. The mission of this two-day regional event, hosted by the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact, is to share knowledge, showcase climate action, engage leadership across sectors, and mobilize the collaboration needed to tackle climate challenges. Broward MPO staff and members of the Resiliency and Affordable Housing Committee engaged with innovative thinkers and leaders from the business, government, academic, youth, and nonprofit communities from across the country and the world. The energy and commitment to build a more resilient community was inspiring. The Broward MPO will continue to work with its partners in the region to create transformative solutions for the current and future challenges of extreme weather, sea-level rise, and storm surge. | |

Congratulations to our Deputy Executive Director Carol Henderson for participating in a panel at the CoMotion conference in Los Angeles. Carol served on the panel with Rahul Gupta, North American Infrastructure and Mobility Leader from Accenture, Celeste Davis Stragand, Head of Smart City Engagements at Ford Motor Company, and Kate Kigongo, Department Manager, Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), and provided valuable insights about creating mobility solutions.
