Message From Executive Director, Greg Stuart
Across the country, autumn means the leaves are changing; here in Broward County it means the license plates are changing, as millions of travelers visit Florida. Many of those tourists will pass through Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). In fact, I had the opportunity to sit down with Mark Gale, CEO and Director of Aviation for the Broward County Aviation Department and get an inside look at FLL’s operations and upcoming projects for the latest episode of our award-winning “Let’s Talk Transportation” podcast. We covered everything from expansion plans to sustainability. Lastly, mark your calendars for the upcoming State of the Region Annual Awards. This year's event will be held on March 28, 2024, and will celebrate the achievements of individuals, organizations, and initiatives that have contributed to improving mobility, sustainability, and livability for all in the Broward County region and those who chose to visit us.

Broward MPO Executive Director Meets with International Delegation at MetroPlan Orlando
| Broward MPO Executive Director Greg Stuart was among Florida transportation officials who met with a group of eight visitors from the European Union and Great Britain in Orlando to discuss transit needs and procurement processes in the state. The visitors were part of the European Union’s S-ACCESS project mission to North America. They represented small and medium-sized companies from five countries and two European Railway Clusters and were on a two-week visit to the U.S. and Canada. The group hoped to gain better understanding of transportation, particularly transit, and find ways to introduce smaller suppliers from the EU into the market. The group had attended the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Expo in Orlando before sitting down for the roundtable discussion at the MetroPlan Orlando office. Orange County Commissioner Mayra Uribe, the MetroPlan Orlando Board Chair, welcomed the group. They then discussed their goals and presented information about the project. The visitors heard presentations from Mr. Stuart, as well as Gary Huttmann, MetroPlan Orlando Executive Director, and Mark Reichert, Executive Director of the Florida Metropolitan Planning Organization Advisory Council (MPOAC), followed by a question-and-answer period. | |
Bike Around Broward with BCycle
Are you tired of the same old biking routine? Want to switch things up and explore some new terrain? Hop on BCycle and ride through some of the most beautiful spots in Broward County. If you haven't heard of BCycle, it's a bike sharing system that allows riders to rent bicycles at designated stations throughout the county. The Broward MPO is proud to partner with BCycle to provide locals and visitors alike with a fun, easy, and sustainable way to explore our city.
One of our favorite places to ride BCycle is through the picturesque Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. This park features a diverse ecosystem of mangroves, lagoons, and hardwood hammocks, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts. Pedal your way through winding trails while soaking up the stunning scenery and catching glimpses of local wildlife. If you are more interested in experiencing Broward's vibrant cultural scene, ride your BCycle to the popular Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District. With many art galleries, theaters, and restaurants, you will have plenty to see, and do as you pedal through this lively area.
Of course, we cannot talk about biking in Broward without mentioning the famous Hollywood Beach Boardwalk. Cruise along this iconic pathway, which stretches 2.5 miles along the beach and is dotted with cafes, boutiques, and street performers. No matter where you choose to ride, BCycle is an affordable and eco-friendly way to explore our city. So, grab your helmet, pick up a BCycle, and get ready for a fun and adventurous day on two wheels. Happy pedaling!
