MOBILITY MONDAY

Message From Executive Director, Greg Stuart

October is here and, in partnership with our Board of Directors, we’ve hit the ground running on several initiatives that we hope will make your commute better. This part of the year is always associated with change and our agenda for this Thursday’s board meeting could not be a better example of this. Electric Vehicles (EV) have gone from being a novel concept a few years ago, to being commonplace today. We recognize the need to be strategic about integrating EVs into our transportation system and will be moving forward with our Electric Vehicle Master Plan, which compliments state and federal electrification efforts across our region. Additionally, our board will confirm new membership appointments to the Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board (LCB), a committee which aids the Broward MPO’s transportation planning by providing perspectives from a diverse set of transportation users. I welcome our new LCB members and thank them for their service! We know the future of transportation involves utilizing data to anticipate change and making improvements to adapt simultaneously. Our board will be one step closer to making that a reality in Broward County when it approves a new contract for Regional Data and Transportation Analytics. We continue to partner with organizations like the Greater Fort Lauderdale Transportation Management Association (TMA) to bring you resources that improve your commute like the newly launched Commute Broward website, which you’ll learn more about in this edition of Mobility Monday. Lastly, the latest episode of our podcast will be available on the 15th. This time, we're having a conversation with Mark Gale, CEO and Director of Aviation for Broward County. Mark helps us understand how our airport is changing to keep up with the region's growing population and evolving travel needs. I hope you enjoy this edition of Mobility Monday, and as always, have a wonderful week!

BROWARD MPO IN ACTION

Greater Fort Lauderdale TMA Expands

Services County-Wide and Unveils

"Commute Broward" Program

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Transportation Management Association (TMA), a leading authority in transportation solutions since 1992 and a partner in introducing the Riverwalk Water Trolley and the former Sun Trolley, is proud to announce a significant expansion of its services with the launch of its "Commute Broward” Program. This expansion extends Transportation Demand Management (TDM) solutions throughout the entire county.

With Commute Broward, the Greater Fort Lauderdale TMA has developed a program to help optimize the transportation network for both residents and visitors. "This expansion and

program launch represents a significant milestone for us as we are dedicated to improving the daily commute experience for all,” said Greg Stuart, TMA Board Chair and Director of the Broward MPO. “Local TDM programs like Commute Broward are a crucial strategy for meeting United States climate targets and align with the MPO’s vision for a more connected community."

TDM is the use of strategies to educate and encourage travelers to maximize the efficiency of a transportation system, leading to improved mobility, reduced congestion, and lower vehicle emissions. This approach makes better use of the transportation infrastructure already in place, and TDM programs provide all people with real options that enable them to travel from their location to their destination in an affordable, efficient, and sustainable way.

New Projects in the Works as Part of the Broward MPO's Transportation Improvement Plan

Attention Broward County residents! Exciting news is coming your way! New transportation projects are set to begin in neighborhoods around Broward County soon as part of the Broward MPO Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). These projects aim to enhance transportation services throughout the region by focusing on public safety, infrastructure improvements, and improved accessibility. The TIP provides a framework for coordinating transportation planning and programming for the region. With the goal of planning, and coordinating safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable transportation systems in Broward County, the MPO is at the forefront of bringing this program to fruition.

Some of the projects in the pipeline for Broward County include improvements to roadways and bridges, enhanced pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and safety improvements to help reduce accidents and improve mobility for all modes of transportation. So, what does this mean for you? Residents will experience more efficient commutes, a better-connected region, and a healthier environment. We are thrilled to see these projects take shape and are looking forward to enjoying the many benefits they will bring to our neighborhoods and communities.

Safe Driving Tips for the Holiday Season

As the holiday season nears, or begins if you celebrate Oktoberfest, we wanted to remind everybody about the hazards of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. As part of Route to 2050’s focus on safety, the MPO has reviewed crash trends and noted the following trends related to impaired driving (or driving under the influence).

If you are planning to partake in Oktoberfest, enjoy an adult Halloween party, or any of the other festivities the coming months offer, please plan to get home safely. Identify a designated driver, use a rideshare service, call a cab, or make plans to stay overnight. Do not become a statistic. Click here to learn more about the Route to 2050 initiative.
