THIRSTING AFTER GOD
In Psalm 42 David is seeking after God. His enemies had come against him, and all he wanted was more of God. He wrote in verses 1-2 [KJV] “As the Hart [deer] panteth [thirsteth] after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?”
Having been a shepherd from his youth, David knew nature. He knew the nature of animals, especially sheep. He was isolated, alone with them, tending to their needs. He would worship the Lord upon his harp, and I am sure, without any doubt, that the sheep received comfort from the sound of the harp and David’s worship.
David thirsteth after God, and God poured his living water upon him. David wrote the Psalms, and as was the custom, they were sung aloud. I can almost see the sheep responding to the music.
God wants that kind of relationship with us, his sheep. He wants to lead us besides the still water so we can drink his living water. When we thirst after God like that hart [adult deer], and David; when only the living water of God can quench our thirst, then he will meet us there.
When you become thirsty for God, and are isolated with only Him, He will speak to you. He will reveal himself to you like He did to David. Take time to get quiet and listen for Him to speak. He is waiting. He wants to pour out His living water upon you so that you will never thirst again.
