THE WATER BROOK
_____________________
Psalm 42:1-2 reads, “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?”
The Amplified Version helps with the understanding, “As the deer pants [longingly] for the water brooks, So my soul pants [longingly] for You, O God. 2 My soul (my life, my inner self) thirsts for God, for the living God. When will I come and see the face of God.?”
When we are dry and thirsty, there is nothing so refreshing as water for any of us, including animals. We can live without food for many days, but a person cannot survive more than three days to a week without water.
What these verses are saying is simply this: We cannot live without God. We thirst for [long after] Him and wait for Him to speak. Do you have that kind of relationship with the Lord? Do you thirst for him? Is he your “water brook”? Are you drinking daily from his cup?
Psalm 23:2-3 says, “…he [God] leadeth me beside the still water” [water brook] “and restoreth my soul.” Verse 5 says, “my cup runneth over” or overflows.
Just being in the presence of God [our water brook] satiates the dry, thirsty soul. That is where we find the living waters that refresh us. That is where our cup is filled to overflowing. That is where we find our source of life.
Many spend no time with the one that gives us the living water. If a human body cannot survive without water for a week, then surely our soul and spirit need the living water to stay alive too.
If you aren’t longing after God’s water brook, then it is time that you make a decision daily to do just that. Your life will become refreshed, and you will never regret it. Your cup will overflow!
