NO FEAR

Paul taught Timothy a very important lesson in 2 Timothy chapter 1. In verse 6 Paul said, “Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.”
Apparently, Timothy was going through some trials. He was a young man when he was called to the ministry, and undoubtedly some didn’t think he was qualified to be a Pastor. Yet Paul, in his wisdom brought to his remembrance that God had used Paul to administer a gift given to Timothy through the laying on of his hands. Perhaps Timothy had let fear come in from the backlash of those that were opposed to his ministry.
Paul goes on in verse 7-8 with, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God.”
Paul was letting Timothy know that there would be afflictions, but not to walk in fear. He told him that God did not send that fear. If it wasn’t God, then we know it was the adversary that was bringing fear to him. God had given Timothy power to be an overcomer. He had given him enough love to sustain him, and a clear mind to do what he was called to do. Yes, there would be afflictions, but God would be with him.
Often, when the season of our life is full of trials and afflictions we forget this verse, and let fear creep in. We must realize that fear is the opposite of faith. Putting it simply, we are not trusting God when we walk in fear.
In reading these scriptures in 2 Timothy, we also should be reminded that any power we have does not originate in ourselves. It comes from God, along with his love, and clear thinking. We must avoid at all costs letting words or anything else that comes our way cut us to the heart and bring with it fear, when we know we have heard from God. We must keep trusting God regardless of what we see with the natural eye.
We stand on this verse: Romans 8:31, “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us.” That should conclude the matter when it comes to fear. No fear!
