PRAYING IN TONGUES – LESSON 1

IT’S IMPORTANCE

Yesterday I wrote of the Psalm 100 key to entering God’s throne room in your personal prayer time. Today we will build on that foundation.

Praying in tongues (unlearned languages) gives a dimension to prayer well beyond praying just in your native tongue (the heart language). It is praying in the Holy Spirit. The Spirit knows how to praise God more perfectly, how to build you up personally in your spirit and soul, and how to intercede for the needs of others that you don’t even know about.

Some Spirit-filled believers very seldom pray in tongues. That should not be the case. Why is it that upon entering into God’s throne room you would only wish to speak to Him in English, and you do not wish to communicate in heavenly languages? English (or whatever your heart or native language is) cannot adequately say all there is to be said. I Corinthians 14:2 says that when one speaks in tongues “in the spirit he speaketh mysteries” because he knows not what he is saying, but God knows and the holy angels (who minister for us) know. This praying can often dispatch the ministering angels to accomplish that which was spoken in their language (tongues). We might never have knowledge of how much our prayers actually accomplish, but it is effectual fervent prayer.

The tongues of Holy Spirit in your personal prayer life are not the same as the “gift of tongues” which (with interpretation) is for the edification of the church and a sign to the unbeliever. It is for your own personal edification and to glorify God and to go forth to accomplish his works.

Do not put “tongues” on the shelf. Pray in tongues frequently as did Apostle Paul. In I Corinthians 14:8 Paul said, “I thank my God (that) I speak with tongues more than ye all.” I believe this impacted the understanding in the Holy Spirit that enabled Paul’s inspired writing of half of the New Testament. His “download” from Holy Spirit laid the doctrinal foundation of our faith.

FROM ORDINARY TO EXTRAORDINARY

It is human nature to look to those with great natural talents to be used greatly by God. Yet God doesn’t look for those with natural talent. He looks for those that desire to please him. He takes the ordinary ones with no particular talent and changes them into something extraordinary. We should never look at the natural things in life to elevate us or depreciate us. God qualifies the called my friend. He changes the hardest hearts and makes them pliable in His hands.

Take Mary, for instance. She was a young virgin peasant girl. She had no real status. She was not born in palace, and nothing is said about her mother and father other than they were in the lineage of King David. Yet despite being ordinary, she was chosen by God to carry the God-seed in her womb and be the mother of Jesus Christ. Having been brought up in Jewish traditions and teachings, she was often told that one day Messiah would come, but to be the one to carry him under her heart was probably something she never dreamed of.

Then there is Peter. Peter was an uneducated fisherman. I suppose he knew a lot about fishing, but when Jesus called him, he had no resume that said, I am qualified to be a disciple of Jesus. He had nothing to offer but himself. The same was true about most of the other disciples.

Then there is Matthew. He was despised by most people because he was a tax collector. The one that could throw you into prison if you didn’t pay your taxes. How unlikely that Jesus would choose him, but he did. It transformed Matthew.

There once was a man that I knew that had been in church on and off all his life. He went through a divorce and the church turned their back on him. He became bitter. Now, he had been an ordinary church goer, but did not know Jesus as Lord and Savior. I had the privilege of leading him to Christ. He was in stage 4 lung cancer, but God intervened. This man was in church every week, and the transformation in his life was dramatic. God took the ordinary and made it extraordinary. He later went home to Jesus a changed man.

Then there is you. Have you discounted yourself with God? Do you see yourself as ordinary? Well, that is a qualification to become extraordinary. God will use you if you allow Him to. Let Him do the “makeover” and something wonderful will happen in your life! Don’t be surprised when He calls you by name just like he did the disciples. Remember, God has a plan, and it is good!

PROPHETIC WORD

Do you hear the whisper, the soft-spoken words that would come to your spirit throughout the day?   That is me saith the Lord. I am communing with you, and I do it through that still quiet voice of a whisper. I am breathing into your spirit refreshing that is most surely needed in this hour. I am bringing my peace into your spirit that will calm the storms around you. Surely, I have whispered, and you have responded. Let the chaos and the burdens go my child and come sit at my feet. Let me be your focus in this hour and know that I am here to refresh you and bring peace. Surely as the world goes darker, my light will come and guide your path. Yes, my child, I am here, and I am speaking. So often, the noise and the rush bring confusion and doubt, but I am here. Never doubt that I know what is happening in your life, for I am the one that created you. So, sit quietly at my feet and let the distractions go and just enjoy being in my presence. Do you hear the whispers? They are words of love and encouragement. For I will continue to be here and guide you and bring the peace that you need in this hour. Just open your ears to hear that still small voice saith the Lord.

God still speaks through his prophets.

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

The key words for you and I today are to fully...TRUST GOD. It’s a Biblically substantiated fact to say that we are indeed living in the last days. All one has to do is to look around them; Read the Bible, the newspaper and listen to the news to know that we are indeed much different times than ever before. 2 Timothy 3: 1 says: “Know this, that in the last days perilous times will come”. Therefore, we’d be foolish to go about our days acting as if nothing has changed; When all along we see the definite signs of the times being fulfilled on a daily basis. All that anyone would need to do is to read chapter 24 of Matthew to know of assurance that Jesus IS coming soon! With those facts in mind, we must all like never before determine in our hearts and minds to live our lives each day pleasing to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; And to be ready when The Trump of God sounds...And yes, I do believe we are just that close. I determined many years ago there was absolutely NOTHING worth me missing Heaven for. It’s a personal decision that we each must make for ourselves. It’s obvious we cannot change the evil going on in our nation; And neither can we change their choice to call evil good...And good evil. God’s Word says, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil”. (Isaiah 5:20a) Today we must make a firm decision to pray, to hold our peace and at times to hold our tongue, to take our hands off of everything and everybody...And simply TRUST GOD with it all and through it all. For He really does know right where you are and He will never fail you. Have a blessed day and look for opportunities to be a blessing to those you meet in this dark and confused world; For you never know what they too are walking through.
