HALF-TIME
There was a football game recently that was played between archrivals. They play every year. A great deal of time and energy is put into this game. Now, I am not a football fan, but we had company and they wanted to watch the game, so we put it on.
In football there is a half time between the second and third quarters, and this is when the team goes back to the locker room and regroups. They probably have a pep talk, and in yesterday’s game they needed it because the team that our guests are a fan of was behind. When their team came back to play, they were still behind, and it continued this way until 27 seconds before the game was over. Then a game changer happened. Points were scored and it put the game into quadruple overtime. My guest’s team won despite being so far behind.
My point in all of this is that in the game of life we will come to a half-way point and we must take the time to evaluate where we have been and where we are going. If our plans are not working then we must take time with God to see if there is a new plan, and a new direction. So many get stuck in the first half that they miss God’s plans for the second half.
Now, I am not a football player, but these players yesterday made a lot of fumbles in the first half of the game but came back strong at the end. One of my guests had lost faith in their team and was ready to walk out, but the other one said, “we can still do this.” I walked into the room and saw that look of discouragement and thought to myself, should we pray? I declined to do this because I had no preference as to who would win. It turned out that God gave favor to the winning team in the very last seconds of the game and it taught faith to one of my guests.
Half-time gives us a second wind and helps us to go forward. Don’t be stuck in the past my friends because God will bring you victory even if it is in the last few seconds of your game of life. Philippians 3:13-14 says, “…forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Let this be the goal for each of us.
