THE LIFE OF MOSES – LESSON 14
THE DEFAMING OF EGYPT’S GODS

We mentioned yesterday how God was using the ten plagues upon Egypt to show how powerless their gods were against Jehovah, the God of Israel. We described the first three plagues. Let us review them.
The first plague saw the Nile River, the “life blood” of Egypt, with all its water turned to blood along with all other bodies of water. The Nile was viewed by the Egyptians as a god. Their whole agriculture-based economy depended on the Nile.
The river had a crocodile god by the name of Sobek. He was the supposed creator of the Nile. Sobek was depicted as a human body with the head of a crocodile. He was so highly revered that some crocodiles were even mummified the same as the Pharaohs (Modern archaeologists have found them in the tombs). Yet, this crocodile god was unable to prevent the waters from turning into a toxic blood.
The second plague was frogs. The Egyptian goddess Heket had the head of a frog. The magicians could use her alleged power to bring up more frogs like Moses, but only the God of Moses and Israel could get rid of the frogs. Heket was unable to match Jehovah’s power.
The third plague was lice created from the dust of the earth (the ground). Aaron struck the ground, and lice covered every living creature. This was to defame the god Geb, the deity of the earth. Just as Jehovah made ‘adam from the dust of the earth, so also came these lice from the dust of the earth which was Geb’s responsibility. Egypt’s god could not stop the lice.
This was actually the second defamation of Geb. Remember the initial encounter with Pharaoh before the plagues? Aaron threw down his rod as a sign, and it came a serpent. The magicians of Egypt (and of Geb) also threw down their rods and they became serpents. Aaron’s rod ate up all the Egyptian serpents. Well, guess what? Geb was also the father of snakes. He was twice defamed.
Folks, there are multitudes of demons. Some have a little power, and some have great power. They all are defamed by the power of Jesus which He has delegated to every believer. There is no “god” of this earth that can stand up against Jesus’ name. You and I have his name.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross (you and me). Fear not! We wear his royal banner.

ORDINARY PEOPLE

If you have ever read the bible through from Genesis to Revelation, you discovered that God used ordinary people to do extraordinary things.
Take Abraham. He was the oldest son of Terah. His father was seventy years old when he had Abram. They lived in Ur of the Chaldees, which is present-day Iraq. He married his half-sister. It does not say he was a king or a noble man. He was just an average man that was called by God to go to a place where he had never been. His journey caused him to lie about his wife, have a child by his wife’s handmaid, and still God used him. Was he perfect? No, but he served a perfect God and became known as the Father of Faith.
Then there is David. David was the youngest of Jesse’s sons. He was a shepherd. He was not a warrior like his brothers, yet he knew how to protect the sheep. David made many mistakes, but he was a man after God’s own heart. He lived with a repentant heart. Was he perfect? No, but he served and loved a perfect God. His writings bring great encouragement to each of us, including the 23rd Psalm.
Then there is Saul, who later was called Paul. He was on a quest to kill Christians, but God had another plan for him, and he heeded that call and became the author of most of the New Testament. Was he perfect? No, he was a murderer, but his life was changed when he chose to serve a perfect God.
Then there is us. We have all failed in one way or another, but God is a merciful God and draws us to him. When we bid his call, our lives change also. Are we perfect? No, but we serve a God that is.
This merciful God, the creator of the universe has chosen to use ordinary people that He changes from the inside out. Knowing that God has chosen to use us in spite of our failures should make us realize that his mercy is far greater than we could ever know.
Ordinary people become extraordinary when they choose to serve an extraordinary God.

AS GIVEN TO HELEN SANDERS
For this is the hour, this is the hour, saith the Lord for I am opening doors that no man can shut and shutting doors that no man can open. For this is not the hour to be riding the fence. You will see that the doors I am shutting are for your own benefit and good saith the Lord. For I have a plan that is different from the one that you have been on. Oh, you have seen part of it, but I am calling you to me to go with my plan one hundred percent. Do not look to man to unveil what I am about to do for man will fail you. Do not look to your intellect to reason out what I am going to do, for Satan will bombard your mind with many thoughts of deception. Come to me my child and let me remove the hindrances so that you can blossom the way I have intended you to. It has been a dark season, and now I am bringing light into your life so that you will grow more than ever, yet you must allow me to prune those things away that will hold you back. Many have enjoyed this dark time for they have withdrawn into themselves instead of coming to me, the light of their soul, and bringing their very being into the light. Oh, that my children would surrender their will to mine. Oh, that my children would listen to my voice and follow me all the way. Many have gone so far, but I am calling you to total commitment. There will be many dark days ahead, but the light I am shining on your path will keep you safe and secure. There are many things that are coming soon to pass that will bring much fear, but I would say, let me take all fear and doubt away as you come into my presence and spend time to me. Just as a tree must shed its leaves and there is a dormant season, this is the time you have been in and are in. To birth the new leaves, the tree must get rid of the old. Old wineskins would burst when the new wine is put in, so you, also, must be willing to shed the old and let me dress you in the new. This is your hour to go forward and do what I have called you to do. There is no time to contemplate when I call you to myself. There is no time to reason it out. Walk in the spirit, and you will hear my voice. I will show you the way. Come unto me now and be made new. Come unto me now and feel the weight of my glory as it comes upon you. This is so necessary for you, my child. I love you and I am calling to you. Come to me now saith the Lord.

Monday Thought For Today
God uses broken people to do some of the most miraculous things.
Think about Moses. He didn’t want to lead the Israelites to their promised land, and then he killed an Egyptian. And yet God used him.
David a man after God’s heart, had an adulterous affair and had the woman’s husband murdered.
Saul, who became Paul, murdered Christians.
God has plans for each of us even in our fallen state. But God’s mercy and grace can see us through many seemingly unforgivable situations.
We are to live godly and righteous lives. He doesn’t want us to fall into sin. But His grace and mercy allows us to enter back into His presence when we repent.
Thank you Jesus for Your mercy and grace.
