MONTH-LONG DETOUR FOR CURLEW DRIVE TO BEGIN MAY 30
Crews will be working over the road and light rail tracks

NORFOLK – Overhead bridge work and underground utility work will require crews to close Curlew Drive near the I-64 overpass beginning as early as Wednesday, May 30, and continuing through June.

Traffic will be detoured via Military Highway, I-264 and Newtown Road. Access will remain open to all residences and streets off of Curlew Drive during the detour.

During this phase of construction, crews will install five girders over Curlew Drive and complete additional work on the bridge deck for the new ramp from I-64 west to I-264 east. The detour will also allow for utility work under Curlew Drive.

The Curlew Drive detour will also involve temporary interruptions in light rail service between Military Highway and Newtown Road the weekends of June 2-3, June 16-17 and June 23-24. A bus will transport riders between the Military and Newtown stations on these dates. This notice from Hampton Roads Transit provides more details.

The below photo, taken May 11, shows where the work will occur. The map that follows shows approximately where Curlew Drive will be closed.
