MARRIAGE MOMENTS*
1001. Aug. 1: “Vanity of vanities! All things are vanity!” (Ecclesiastes 1:2) Each of us is probably vain about something – a skill, an accomplishment…even not appearing vain. It’s part of our human ego, otherwise we might be gripped by gloom. Tell your beloved one thing you yourself think you’re honestly good at. Affirm each other.
1002. Aug. 8: August 6 & 9 mark the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These days Ukraine continues to be bombed. Some bombs blast property and health. But in marriage, sometimes the “bombs” can be emotional. Are there any crude comments you’d like to stop?
1003. Aug. 15: “[God] has lifted up the lowly and filled the hungry with good things. (Luke 1:52-53) Mary identifies with the lowly and hungry even as she accepts her role as being the mother of Jesus. Sometimes our deficiencies can show the power of God working in us. How does your beloved lift you up when you feel low?
1004. Aug. 22: "Yeah, you won," said the irate wife to her husband, "and now you get to live with the loser." ‑ Retrouvaille (https://retrouvaille.org/) leader on why win/win outcomes are a better way to resolve disagreements.
1005. Aug. 29: “When you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind…” (Luke: 14:14) Easy to read; Harder to do. As Covid is hopefully waning, maybe you aren’t holding banquets, but discuss with your beloved how you might reach out to the poor, the crippled, those shunned by polite society.
*Marriage Moments go out to individuals on Mondays. For Sunday bulletins use the Sunday immediately before the above date.
