Your Airdrie Regional Chamber of Commerce attended the Alberta Chambers of Commerce AGM & Policy Plenary conference in Red Deer this past weekend where the provincial network adopted 22 policy resolutions to advocate with the provincial and federal governments.

Thank you to Jay Raymundo, chamber director and advocacy committee chair, for attending the conference with Executive Director, Marilyne Aalhus to represent business region.

Speakers ranged from Hon. Perrin Beatty, President & CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, a panel on contraband tobacco: Impacts on Business, Government Revenue, and Community Crime to keynote speaker Premier Danielle Smith.

Share Your Perspective

What are your Economic and Fiscal Priorities?

Would you rather reduce the provincial debt, or increase funding to services?

Are supply chain issues impacting your business?

What up and coming industry could be Alberta’s next “boom?”

The Alberta Chambers of Commerce network is launching the latest survey in our Alberta Perspectives market research program — this one focused on priorities for the province.

So, tell us: What are your economic and fiscal priorities for the Alberta government?

The survey will take ~8 minutes to complete and is open until 5:00PM on June 7th, 2024.

Thank you in advance for your participation. Your opinions and feedback mean a lot to us.

Your responses will remain anonymous and help us advocate on your behalf to the provincial government.

Capital Gains Tax Charges: Petition to the Minister of Finance

  • Whereas: Increasing the capital gains inclusion rate to 66.6% will put Canada and Canadian business at a disadvantage;
  • Whereas: The Canadian Chamber of Commerce estimates that 1 in 5 Canadian companies will be directly impacted by this change over the next decade;
  • Whereas: Former Bank of Canada David Dodge stated that increasing the inclusion rate would make Canada a “less attractive” place to invest;
  • Whereas: The Bank of Canada has called Canada’s business productivity problem “an emergency” and is pleading for the government to incentivize business development;
  • Whereas: A rise in capital gains taxes would strain healthcare resources, limit access to affordable housing options, exacerbate financial challenges for farmers, and compromise retirement savings for Canadians;
  • Whereas: Canadian business leaders agree that increasing the inclusion rate would make Canada less competitive and make it more difficult for Canadians to find jobs, including skilled professionals;

Citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Minister of Finance to scrap her plans to increase the capital gains inclusion rate to 66.6% so that Canadian businesses are not put at an unfair disadvantage. The E-petition requires 500 signatures before it can be brought to the house floor.
