National President
Judy Fiddler
WE CAN!
Hello Everyone… Our National Convention was held in New Bern, NC back
in July. I wish to thank everyone who attended. Much thanks go out to PNP Fran Holtgreven who served as our President for 2 years. You did a great job. Special thanks to PNP/Webmaster Colleen Orfanello for stepping up to record our meetings. Late information from the planning committee led us to have to search for a recorder/transcriber that we could afford. The President’s luncheon had the theme of Cruising with Fran…Thanks to those who were on that planning committee. You get a pat on the back. In the planning stage is the 2027 National Convention.
My Theme for this coming year is WE CAN…MOPHA. We Can Make it happen. We Can Offer time. We Can Pray. We Can Help and We Can Ask. We Can do… what can we do to make it happen? Where can we offer time? We can pray. We can help support our Veterans and their families. We can ask…are you okay? What can we do for you?
For the month of August, summer is winding down, many schools start with fall sports to follow. Our August focuses on August 7 being Purple Heart Day. There are communities and entities that have been named a Purple Heart City, County, State etc. that celebrate and honor our Veterans. Please support those that do. On August 21, our top three officers will be in Boston, MA to attend the dedication of making the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides) a “Purple Heart Ship”. The significance of this is the ship is the oldest ship still in commission and the Purple Heart the oldest medal.
Another date to remember is the birthday of the US Coast Guard on August 4. This marks the day in 1790 when President George Washington signed the Tariff Act, creating our nation’s first marine fleet. Happy 235th Birthday to our Coasties.
Our website has been “under construction” and is ready to launch. Since becoming President, there were many changes to forms that I as secretary used but now go to our new secretary, Maryann Barclay. Her email address is: MOPHANatSec@gmail.com. Maryann and I will be meeting on August 13th to finish the transfer of property.
Have a wonderful rest of your summer and hope to see you on ZOOM…
Yours in Patriotism…Judy

National Senior Vice President
Linda Bellis
Happy August!
As your new National Senior Vice President, let me just say what an honor it is to serve this community. I had a lot of fun seeing everyone at the national convention last month, and the meetings were very informative. As the outgoing National Junior Vice, I'm proud to report that we raised $4,434! Thank you to everyone who bought items to support our veterans.
Now, on to the fun stuff. As we start the new year, the following forms will be due October 1st.
- Finance Report
- 990 IRS Form
- Life Member Verification Report
In preparation for some new changes (TBA soon), please contact any members who you haven’t seen at meetings or heard from recently, and update the roster accordingly. This will help us ensure accurate and constant contact with everyone in our organization for news, events, and other important happenings. It's unprofessional to see members on unit rosters that have passed away 5, 10, 15 years ago. It's also damaging to that specific unit's reputation, as it shows neglect on their leaders' part. Please, please, PLEASE be diligent and make this a priority.
It was also reported that some rebate checks were not cashed, so I'd like to call on all Department Presidents to check that all members' contact information (and titles) are accurate in the Installation Report. This means calling all of your units to make sure everything is correct. I personally have been a victim to outdated installation reports, having called the numbers of multiple "officers" who no longer actually held those positions. This slows down our processes immensely, so please double check that the Installation Reports are correct.
Let’s start our fall season on the right foot, because I know that “we can" do it. Thank you in advance for all of your help!

I would like to recognize the passing of Jeanne Gibson on July 29, 2026 at the age of 100. Jeanne was the woman behind the famous image of Rosie the Riveter who encompassed strength, determination, and perseverance during the WWII Campaign of "WE CAN do it". National Jr. Vice President
Angie Foster
A little bit about me: My husband, Willy, and I live in Osceola, Nebraska with our dog, Bella. We have 5 kids and 9 grandkids. I am co-owner of a property acquisitions company, dabble in e-commerce, delivery driver, race team pit crew member and am a retired travel nurse. My husband works for a petroleum company as their fuel & propane delivery driver and mechanic. Our favorite hobby to do together is to go on cruises!! I support veterans in honor of my father’s service in which he received a Purple Heart during the Vietnam War. In order to support our veterans, we need to do some fundraising.
I encourage every member, Unit and Department to participate in the “Pick A Date To Donate” fundraiser to replenish the National Ways & Means Fund which goes directly to helping veterans. The Pick A Date To Donate postcards were handed out at the post NEC Meeting but I have 200+ more coming from the printers. If you would like some postcards mailed to you to share with your Units and Departments, please just send me an email and I will mail them to you. If you don’t want to wait, the postcard forms will be available to print off from the website.
Please mail the completely filled out postcard with $496+ to the National Treasurer at the address on the post card. A winner will be drawn from all the postcards and they will receive a $100 gift card at the National Convention. All postcards MUST be received by June 1, 2027. Keep an eye out for another exciting fundraiser that is launching on Labor Day!! Hint: Wear your MOPHA with pride!

National Secretary
Maryann Barclay
Greetings, MOPHA sisters and brothers!
For those of you who do not know me, please allow me to introduce myself. I am honored to have been appointed as the new, National Secretary by our newly elected President, Judy Fiddler. I am excited about the upcoming year and look forward to working with each of you in carrying out Judy’s theme of, “We Can!”
Please reach out to me if I can assist you in any way. For just a bit of housekeeping…. Just a reminder that the Life Membership Reports as well as the Finance Reports and 990 Filing Confirmations have a deadline of October 1. These are mandatory requirements for units and departments to be eligible to receive their Life Membership Rebates in December. Now for the fun part…. When trying to decide on a topic to write about for this first, General Orders, my mind kept going back to this year’s celebration of 250 years of American independence. Many of us are familiar with the more well-known signers of the Declaration of Independence. Each of those
56 men deserve praise and recognition. However, there is another man who, although he ultimately was not a signer, deserves recognition as well. That man is Richard Henry Lee of Virginia. So, I decided to write about Richard Henry Lee’s story.
Richard Henry Lee was one of, if not the main, architect behind both the colonies’ push for independence from Great Britain as well as the need to draft and put forth a formal, “declaration of independence.” When Richard Henry Lee arrived at the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia in 1774, there were mere murmurs about the need for the colonies to dissolve
political and governmental connections with the “mother country.’ Any such conversations were done privately and were dangerous to engage in. Every member of the Congress understood full well the gruesome punishment Great Britain would inflict for such a, “treasonous act.”
However, after armed conflicts at Lexington and Concord as well as Bunker (Breed’s) Hill, there was a growing agreement among the delegates at the Second Continental Congress, that a “declaration of independence,” should be proposed. It was quite another thing, however, for someone to stand up and offer such a resolution publicly. Richard Henry Lee did just that!
It was Richard Henry Lee who came forward on June 7, 1776 to offer what came to be called, the Lee Resolution proposing independence. Lee’s resolution would make and change history!! Lee stated, “That these united colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent states; and that all political connections between them and the State of Great Britian is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.” Do any of those words sound familiar?? The memberships of the Second Continental Congress knew well the mortal danger Richard Henry Lee had just brought upon himself. So much so that they voted to initially strike his name, as well as the man who seconded his resolution, from the official record. The man who “seconded” his resolution was none other than John Adams. But in spite of knowing the danger to his life, Richard Henry Lee was far from finished. He still felt it was his sacred duty to convince the more reluctant
members of the Congress to support independence. He spoke some of the most courageous and inspiring words in the history of our country. Space doesn’t allow me to quote them here, but they are worth looking up and reading for yourselves. Sadly, on June 10, 1776, Lee received word that his wife was gravely ill. He left Philadelphia immediately to be by her side. The very next day, while greatly missing Lee, but under HIS instructions, the Second Continental Congress did indeed pick a committee to draft a “declaration of independence.” As one of the main driving forces behind the need for such a document, there is little historical doubt that, if not for his wife’s illness, Richard Henry Lee would have been a member of that committee, if not its chairman. And it was specifically Lee’s Resolution calling for independence, that was formally adopted on July 2, and Thomas Jefferson’s final draft of the document approved on July 4, 1776. Although he ultimately was not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Richard Henry Lee’s influence on events in 1776 is immeasurable. His younger brother, Francis Lightfoot Lee did represent Virginia as a signer. A few years later, Richard Henry Lee went on to be one of the driving forces behind adding the Bill of Rights to the Constitution. As with the 56 actual signers of the Declaration of Independence, our nation owes a great debt to Richard Henry Lee for his courage, vision, and commitment to our republic and its independence.
May each of you have a blessed and joyful month!

National Membership Officer
Cheryl Perez, PNP
Every year at National Convention there is discussion about the increasing percentage of At-Large members and the decreasing percentage of Active Unit members. The first thought is usually to contact At-Large members and encourage them to join a Unit. While that is a good idea, I believe the better place to start is with the members who are already listed on our Unit rosters and get them involved again. As I talked with Unit Presidents over the past year, I know that many have not talked with or heard from some of their members for several years. I have also heard concerns about cleaning up Unit rosters because doing so would result in a loss of rebate money and delegate votes at National Convention. I understand those concerns but maintaining inaccurate rosters is not a sustainable way to build a healthy organization. Our Units are the foundation of the Auxiliary. Having accurate and up to date rosters is essential to understanding our Units and organization. Accurate information allows National leadership to make better informed decisions about how to move the Auxiliary forward. For these reasons, and others, the 2026 Life Membership Verification Form (LMV), due by October 1, is focusing on outreach to your Unit members. The June 30 rosters were emailed to Unit Presidents and Secretaries during the first week of July with a request to begin contacting members and verifying the accuracy of their information. Below are links for two Google Forms that you can use to report changes to member information. One form is for reporting a change in membership status and the other is for reporting changes to contact information. I will be noting the month and year of member contact on the master database for future reference.
Please remember that the LMV form is based on the June 30 roster. I will be sending a revised
LMV form in September that will take into account the work being done during this time. Please
make sure as you outreach to your members that you are taking notes on when and how you
contacted them and any pertinent information. National President Judy Fiddler and I are hoping to see many updates as a result of your efforts to contact members and bring our rosters up to date. I anticipate sending updated Unit rosters to Presidents and Secretaries in January.
We thank you for your help with this important effort. Accurate membership information is
essential to the health of our Units and the future of the Auxiliary.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Then last year on a trip to NY with my family, I was able to visit the site. I really can't describe the feeling. But brought back
the memory of the news casts and the moment I realized what I was hearing on the radio was true. Then also hearing that the President's plane was on its way to
SAC air force base located south of Omaha. Whispers and wondering if this was going to bring things closer to our home?

Drawing will be at the end of the Thursday night Zoom meeting. Please continue to read the General Orders and hunt. Share the information with other members. Use the information you read to include in letters/emails to members. Get some great ideas for your units and departments. Let's keep everyone informed. A lot of time and information goes into these General Orders and it is for ALL our members. If this organization is going to continue, it is up to all of us, doing our part. National Chaplain
Kay Jo Baucom, PNP
To be a chaplain means to be an active listener, allowing voices to be heard without fear of judgement. Listening, however is a skill that must be nurtured. Often , instead of truly listening, we want to interject our own ideas and fail to hear the speaker. Let your voice heard. Find a listening ear with someone you trust and say what you feel needs to be said. Chaplains are looking for opportunities to listen and be a support for those who are seeking grace and a peaceful existence. Peaceful moments bring quiet, wonderful times to reflect on the grace that surrounds you! Listen to God at work- even silence , in a chaotic world, offers peaceful , calming moments. “Be still and know that I am God”
Listening and thinking of God’s amazing grace,

National Region 2 President
Bailey Paugh
I am so honored and excited to serve as your newly elected Region 2 President! My name is Bailey Paugh — and just a little fun fact before we get started, Paugh is pronounced “Paw!”
I am proud to represent Nebraska, and the Purple Heart holds a very special place in my heart. I am eligible for membership through my grandfather, Larry Meyer, who received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained while serving in Vietnam. Being able to carry on his legacy through the Auxiliary is something I am incredibly proud of.
One of my biggest goals as President is keeping our Region connected! I plan to hold Zoom meetings every other month and send out Region 2 newsletters with updates, events, accomplishments, and news from throughout our Region.
I am excited to get to know all of you, hear your ideas, and see what we can accomplish together. Please never hesitate to reach out — I’m here for you and looking forward to a great year!

National Region 4 President
Kay Jo Baucom
Greetings to all who are part of Region 4!
Our new year is off to a good start as we plan for service projects that honor and support our Patriots. This Auxiliary was founded on the mission of helping those men and women that, while serving their country, shed blood. Region 4 stands ready to assist those in need, celebrate the service given and work to bring the families and communities together in service.
One possible way to help raise monies for our Auxiliary is to participate in fund raising opportunities. Today is the perfect time to “Pick a Date to Donate”! You select a day on a monthly calendar and donate that amount. For example: if I pick day 5, I donate $5 and so forth. What an easy way to make fund raising fun!
Alright, Region 4 - let’s fill our calendars !!!! Picking a date to donate ,

Although we wish we could leave this part out of General Orders, we must report that the Auxiliary STILL HAS NOT WON the Patriot Game Trophy.
Thank you to the Department of Louisiana who donated the new Trophy.
Perhaps next year, WE CAN win the Patriot games.
| | Then President Fran Holtgreven shows off the new Patriot Games trophy. | | Commander Frances Figueroa-Lowe graciously (and happily) accepts the trophy on bebehalf of the Patriots. | | Patriot Felicia Flake-Perry's answer to the Family Feud-style Patriot Games secured the Patriot's win in 2026. | | |
National Region 5 President
Doris Williams
Greetings from Region 5, Y’all.
This term became a very important part of our National Convention in New Burn, NC thanks to our Region 4 President who is from North Carolina. I want to congratulate the Department of North Carolina for putting on one of
the best National conventions that I have attended in a long time. Thank you to the members of our auxiliary for allowing me to serve as your Region 5 president again.
This is a new year which means we are going to double our efforts to scrub our rosters and increase our efforts on bringing new members into our organization.
Let’s not forget that 26 August is Women’s Equality Day. Women have always been the driving force behind the scenes striving to make things better for everyone. I salute the brave women who had the courage to join the military, especially our patriot Purple Heart recipients. They have sacrificed much to help secure our safety. These brave women were wounded in the defense of our country while facing barriers to equal recognition, opportunity and visibility in the military. I’m grateful for all our women veterans and for all the wonderful women of this auxiliary.
Let’s continue to band together for each other, our patriots, and family members.
Doris
Region5MOPHAUX@gmail.com
| Region 5 was very busy over the last few weeks, Arkansas' Fouke City became a Purple Heart entity. Louisiana's Patriot James Bollich - survivor of the Bataan Death March - turned 105! Texas Governor Greg Abbott hosted Patriots on Purple Heart Day, and the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History has a new Purple Heart Exhibit! These are just a handful of events. Also, TEXOMA in Denison, TX will host a VET FEST on August 26th. | |

Andrew DelGaudio
National Senior Vice Commander
Military Order of the Purple Heart
Members of the Auxiliary, What a terrific summer it has been and we are fully geared up for what looks to be a very productive fall and New Year! Foot is fully on the gas and no breaks!
As the Order and the Auxiliary continue to move together, we will grow stronger
and more purposeful in our thoughts, words and deeds. In the month of August the
Auxiliary National President and other leaders came together with our Commanders
Strategic Advisory Council to collectively better understand the issues before us,
examine pathways that we could grow and begin plotting a campaign plan that will allow
us experience steady responsible growth in the next 1-5 years. This is a very meaningful start to determining our future and one we have needed for some time! This is a grassroots effort that any member can participate in and be heard. Let’s talk the
future by the hand and shape our way!
While there is much work to be done, I know that there are many that are willing to do
the work for a brighter future and I enjoy standing shoulder to shoulder with you as we
continue to move forward and make a difference for our Combat Wounded Veterans
and their families. It is my pleasure to serve you as your National Senior Vice Commander. Write me at seniorvice@purpleheart.org or call me at 540.809.1329.
