National President
Fran Holtgreven
“Rise to the Challenge” was the theme for the 2024-2025 Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary and as I write the last General Orders article, I have been going through my files, emails and paperwork. I am amazed and proud of all the Departments and Units of this organization. You all made “Rise to the Challenge” a successful theme by helping our Patriots and Veterans in so many ways.
The Helping Our Veterans Project Funds were used to help Veteran Home residents with lap quilts, personal items, clothing, hygiene products, books, puzzles, games and special events during holidays with food and camaraderie to cheer them up and let them know they were not forgotten. Homeless Veterans were handed out blankets, personal items, hats, coats, scarves and food. The food pantry at the VA was supplied with food to help fill the pantry for those in need.
The Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary VAVS Service Grant was utilized for transitional housing kits that included vacuum cleaners, dishes, kitchenware, bedding, cleaning supplies and move in items. Backpacks were packed with gloves, hats, scarves, coats, blankets, sleeping bags, rain gear, snacks, water, personal hygienic products and letters of hope for the
homeless. Christmas dinners with all the trimmings were distributed to Veterans who would spend the holiday alone with no family on Christmas Eve. Money was donated for Ultrasound handheld equipment to be purchased for a Veterans center so the process could be completed immediately. Bedding and towels were purchased for a homeless shelter. Clothing for a special floor at a VA Hospital was donated to be used instead of hospital gowns. Valentine Day,
St. Patrick Day, George Washington Birthday, Christmas and other holidays were enjoyed at Veterans Hospitals and Veteran Homes with snacks, breakfasts, lunches, games and camaraderie with funds from the Service Grant.
MOPHA Departments and Units across the country held Stand Downs where they handed out information for Veterans about how to receive help, handing out snacks, breakfast tacos, hand sewn laundry bags with detergent and supplies for Veterans without machines, and food to homeless population.
Food Pantry shopping, presenting programs to school children about what the Purple Heart represents, preparing baskets for Christmas for Veterans, donating wreaths to be laid at the National Cemeteries’ all over the country and helping with the laying of them, donating to Toys for Tots, signing custom made cards to hand out to Veteran’s along with personal messages, and many other programs.
Auxiliary members also helped their Chapters by hosting Conventions, lunches, Viola drives, decorating parade floats, attending Memorial and Veterans Day ceremonies, funerals and all the functions of their Chapter.
I am sure I have not covered all that has been done this year, but the Veterans of this country do remember and appreciate your service and support. “Challenges are what makes life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.” Thank you to all the Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary members, this year you have made life meaningful to many Veterans.
Thank you for making my life interesting and meaningful, too.

National Sr. Vice President
Teviah L. Gilliard
As we wrap up 2024-2025, I’m filled with so much gratitude and pride as we look back on our journey. This year has been extraordinary, marked by unforgettable moments, resilience, and unwavering dedication to our mission. Together, we’ve RISEN TO THE CHALLENGES head-on and emerged stronger, more united, and committed to fostering an environment where our presence and importance are unmistakable.
We’ve arrived at so many moments that truly captured the spirit and camaraderie of our organization. From heartwarming community events at a local level to creating opportunities for publicity and education about the Purple Heart honor, each moment has added to the beautiful tapestry of our collective success. We worked closely with the Order, ensuring our efforts were aligned seamlessly. Under Madam President Holtgreven’s leadership, she developed committees that streamlined operations for fundraising, driving membership and raising awareness about MOPH and MOPHA through networking.
Honoring Service, Remembering Sacrifices and Celebrating Freedom
June brings us Flag Day and D-Day, poignant reminders of our nation's history and sacrifices. Let us honor the day of our Star-Spangled Banner as the symbol of USA’s freedom, while D-Day allowed us to pay homage to heroes who altered the course of history at Normandy.
D-Day, observed on June 6th, commemorates the courage and sacrifice of the Allied forces during the Normandy invasion. This pivotal event in World War II led to the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control, and it remains a powerful reminder of the bravery and strategic brilliance of those who fought.
Father’s Day, celebrated on the third Sunday of June (6/15/25), is a time to honor fathers and father figures for their guidance and love. The day complements our reflections on service and sacrifice, highlighting the personal and familial contributions to our nation's history. Let us celebrate the fathers among our combat-wounded veterans, whose dedication embodies resilience and service.
Flag Day, celebrated on June 14th, commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes in 1777. It symbolizes liberty, justice, and the resilience of the American spirit. Observing Flag Day allows us to honor these values, celebrate unity, and reflect on the sacrifices made for our freedom. The Auxiliary's mission aligns with Flag Day's values. We support combat-wounded veterans and their families, upholding patriotism and service.
The United States Army’s 250th birthday (also on 6/14) marked a special intersection of personal and national history for me, a Marine Corps brat born at an Army hospital!
Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the end of slavery in the United States. It is a powerful reminder of our journey toward equality and justice, honoring the resilience of those who fought for freedom. Observing Juneteenth alongside Flag Day and D-Day deepens our sense of patriotism, reflecting the diverse and united spirit of our nation.
I can’t resist the fun and festive nature of my birthday coming up on June 22. Imagine celebrating National Chocolate Éclair Day, National Limoncello Day, National Onion Rings Day, and National Kissing Day—all on the same day! Speaking of onion rings, do you know why they make the perfect snack? Because they're always well-rounded! And here's a fun fact: kissing burns calories. So, go ahead and indulge in those chocolate éclairs, then share a kiss—it’s all about maintaining that perfect balance! * Happy Birthday to all June celebrants! *
A Year of Gratitude, Challenges, and Triumphs
This year revealed our true character. Our hearts are brimming with hope and excitement. We are ready to continue our journey with renewed resolve and a commitment to prosperity. The foundations laid this year will serve as the bedrock for future achievements.
By working closely with the Order, we made significant strides in our mission. Our presence and importance resonated throughout the community, with impactful networking, outreach & education and support initiatives.
As we prepare for the National Convention in Reno, the motif “Purple Hearts Are Wild in Reno” perfectly captures our journey. It’s the perfect way to cap off a year of achievements and kick off the year ahead.
This year has shown our ability to withstand challenges, work together, and remain committed. We’ve risen to every challenge, celebrated milestones, and laid the groundwork for future success. With gratitude and hope, we look forward to continuing this journey together. May the coming year bring more resolve, prosperity, and joy.
Thank you for being a part of this remarkable journey. We’re proud of our achievements and eager to see the future. Together, we will thrive and make a meaningful impact.
See you all in Reno!
Yours in Reverent Patriotism,
Teviah

National Secretary
Judy Fiddler
Hi Everyone…Well Summer has finally arrived at least at my place and
Convention is almost here. I want to thank everyone who submitted their reports in a timely manner. It made it so much easier for me to get the needed items ready for convention printing.
If you have or are going to register for Convention, please tell us how you are registering…are you the Department President, Unit President, a National Officer or a Delegate? These titles have to be on your name badge for voting. Voting at
the National Convention may be confusing to some but is actually very easy. Each National Officer is entitled to one vote. Each Department President is entitled to one vote. Each Past National President is entitled to one vote. If a Past National President also holds another national office, then they have to choose which title they want to vote under. They cannot have two. Each Unit President is entitled to one vote known as the “Charter Vote”. The Unit then chooses a “Delegate” and/or “Alternate” to vote the Unit strength. The Unit strength is one
vote for every 10 members on their roster. For example…if there are 43 regular members (no juniors or associates) then the Unit would receive 4 votes to use during the election. The Delegate/Alternate form is available on our website: purpleheartauxiliary.org Please submit as soon as possible so I have time to create the names badges. I am sorry to say, that Members at large, Department or National do not have a vote. Once you are at the Convention, be sure to
register to vote at the credentials table. It is usually in the back of the room, but it doesn’t open until after our opening ceremony.
Our organization is shrinking. When I assumed the secretary position 13 years ago, we had over 130 Units. As of May 31 this year, we have 43 open and happy to say that all 43 submitted their Installation report on time. WAY TO GO and THANK YOU! Help from the Region and Department Presidents is so much appreciated.
Respectfully submitted.

National Americanism Officer, Sgt at Arms, VAVS Rep, and CDCE Grant coordinator
Linda Varejcka
In the past few months, we have participated in several patriotic holidays, and we look forward to another in only a few weeks
The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, marking the birth of the United States as an independent nation. It celebrates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress, which formally declared the thirteen American colonies' separation from Great Britain.
Although the Congress voted for independence on July 2, 1776, the final wording of the Declaration was approved two days later, on July 4.
The first official celebration of Independence Day took place in 1777, marking the one-year anniversary of the Declaration. Festivities included fireworks, bonfires, and public gatherings. Over the years, the holiday evolved to include parades, barbecues, and various patriotic displays, becoming a significant national holiday.
The Fourth of July serves as a reminder of the values of freedom and democracy that the United States was founded upon. It is a day for Americans to reflect on their history and celebrate their national identity through various traditions and festivities.

And lastly, but certainly not least...
FIND ME! I look like this (but you'll have to find my hidden version to win a prize!)
Hope you enjoyed the "Find ME" hot air balloon contest each month. Just something a little fun for while you read the General Orders. Thank you to those that participated. A lot of time goes into writing articles and preparing the General Orders each month. I hope you continue to read and that you share with those in your units, and departments. General Orders are for ALL members not just for those with an elected position or a chairmanship.
This month, instead of a hot air balloon, you will be looking for a GOLDEN NUGGET! The nugget is not only the name of the convention site, but it also references the "nuggets" of information you will be receiving during the 92nd annual convention.
When you find it, email me with the location, before the beginning of the upcoming Zoom meeting and a name will be drawn from those lucky enough to have found the GOLDEN NUGGET. The winner will be announced during Zoom and a prize will be awarded.
Yours in Patriotism, Fun and Fellowship!

As we enter the 2025 Summer season, there are many activities planned to shed Winter’s chill, as we have warmed up and refreshed with the beauty of Spring’s renewal season, we now welcome Summer even as we try to ‘beat the heat’ Praising our Creator. However, whatever plans made I encourage you to go safely with God’s blessings. Also, please continue to keep those affected by unfavorable weather conditions and challenging situations in your prayers and let us know of any of those you know of who have been had their lives disrupted, thank you/bless you.

Flag Day-about the Flag: Food for thought, when reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag
of the United States of America, do you recite the part of one nation – slight pause and then say
under God as if there was a comma separating “one nation under God?” FYI, there is no comma separating it. Also, have you ever wondered how it came to be written the way it is? I’d like to suggest for you to research it for some very interesting reading for yourself-have fun.
Please join in prayer and according to your faith: This is your Time-it will be ‘Your
Prayer’:
“They were all continually united in prayer.” (Acts 1:14)
… And in closing Father God, thank You for being our One and True Heavenly Father Whom
by Your presence demonstrates what a loving Father is like. Thank You for being so loving,
kind, generous and forgiving. We ask Abba, our Eternal and Everlasting Father that our earthly
Fathers will seek You, look to You for wisdom and an increase in knowledge and to be imitators
like You with Your help. We ask that their hearts and minds will be open to receive what Your
grace and mercy offers, thank You. We lift up all fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, brothers,
uncles, extended father figure/father image, Dad, Papa, Pa, Pop, Poppa, Pawpaw, Sire, and
loving memories of fathers who are no longer with us, those present, past and future; those
separated from their children for unknown reason; and those longing to be a father-we ask that
You bless and keep them Father God, thank You. We lift up all of the events creating pain and
anguish we’re experiencing to Your Sovereignty. We thank You Father Jehovah, our Heavenly
Father for hearing our prayers and meeting us at our needs and concerns according to Your
purpose. We ask You to strengthen those of us who are weak as we are lead on this earthly
journey in the path of Your righteousness. Thank You for Your power and Your immeasurably
love, Your sweet, amazing grace and mercy that endures forever, to You we give the honor,
glory and praise as we declare in Your Holy Name of Jesus, Bless You Father. AMEN.
“ But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like
eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:21(NIV)
To God be the glory! Take care, stay beautiful, stay cool, stay hydrated, stay safe, stay aware and prepared, stay abundantly blessed and always in God’s grace! And don’t forget the sunscreen.

Doris Williams
Sent in from PNP Barbra Hale Ray (Colorado) and inadvertently not listed in May General Orders:
The Month of the Military Child is celebrated every April to honor the resilience, strength, and sacrifices of children in military families. These children often face unique challenges—frequent relocations, having parents deployed for long periods, and adapting to new schools and communities. The month recognizes their courage and adaptability.
Last month, Unit 375 members along with the Patriots spent time with Military Children and their families. We provided lunches for two different schools, Aspen Crossings and Mission Viejo.
We are already making plans to add a few more schools to this list!
Unit 375 was surprised by the Buffalo Soldiers, Mile High Chapter. As part of their giving program, our Unit was given socks and long underwear that will be distributed.
We thank them for their unselfish donation.

National Region 4 President
Kay Jo Baucom, PNP
Hello to the most amazing members of any organization! This is Kay Jo Baucom, President of Region 4, and I am super excited to brag just a bit (actually, a lot) about my region. Region 4 is an active, always doing something, region and it is full of hard working, beautiful people dedicated to serving our Patriots. To say I am proud to be a part of this region, is an understatement and the results of this dedication and service, equates to Patriots who know they are remembered, honored, and assisted in all the ways needed.
Take for example: the Department of Georgia is in the midst of fundraising so the proceeds will allow for doing the necessary work that ensures Patriots will be recognized and have their immediate needs addressed. If you need a great pizza deal- contact me! The units within this department have the hearts of gold and the work ethic that gets things done. The leadership guiding the department is devoted to the membership and the mission of service. Great job everyone
The Florida membership has worked so diligently to sustain its commitment to service and taking care of our Patriots. Challenges, for sure, have mandated some changes, but the heart and soul of service remains intact! The resilience of the dedicated individuals is to be admired, and you will find no better people for taking care of business and our Patriots. Kudos to the leadership given and the devotion shown for helping Patriots in need!! We all are grateful
I am also thrilled to give a shout out to other members, units, and departments within Region 4. Sometimes, life events, create challenges and this is true for other areas within our region. Yet, humbly and focused, these folks carry on in admirable ways that inspire the rest of us to persevere. Nameless,(I would forget someone and that would be inexcusable) but oh so special, know how blessed Region 4 is to have each one of you in our auxiliary family.
Lastly, I am “over the moon” with heart felt gratitude for the love and support this region provides each other. Words can never express the difference each of you makes in the lives you touch. The cards, words of encouragement and hugs can totally change the outlook of someone feeling a bit overwhelmed. May each of you within our region and our organization feel that same compassion and care. God bless each of you, our MOPHA family and may God bless our country
Proudly serving with you,
Kay Jo

National Region 2 President
Linda Bellis
Way to go, Region 2!!! We got everything in. All of you are amazing. Please don't wait until the end of September to do the IRS form 990. A lot of the time, the IRS gets shut down and you can't get in. Please send me a copy so I know you have done it. National Treasurer, Tracy Derr begins accepting the IRS and finance reports on July 1st. They are due October 1st.
Be thinking of the viola drives this summer. I know my unit is doing one in July with the Patriots. This is also a good time to get new members. Consider setting up a booth at your county fair, farmer's market, or outside of stores.
I'm sorry about the lack of a June monthly meeting, as I had surgery that day at noon (and too full of medications to think clearly... although, I guess the 'not thinking clearly' is not new ha ha). A big THANK YOU to all of you who join us on the 2nd Wednesday of each month - I so enjoy the ideas and the sharing that goes on. I learn something new every time.
All of you are so amazing. Enjoy your summer! I hope to see you all in Reno. The jury is still out on if I can travel. Because of the surgery on my rotator cup and bicep, no kayaking, paddle boarding (or basically anything with my arm) for me! Nonetheless, I am thankful for all the great family and friends helping me out. My husband, Dave, is lucky that I had to wait until school was out to do this (as I do all the snow blowing (he does the shoveling))!
Enjoy and see you in Reno! I will have a July meeting, so stay tuned to meet the new Unit and Department Presidents!

A MESSAGE from Linda V & Linda B:
Are your suitcases out and ready to be packed for RENO? I certainly hope so. Just a reminder we will be doing an auction at the Tuesday night hospitality for "Ways and Means".
Bring something along that can fit in your suitcase that we can raffle. Maybe you have a purse in good condition you no longer use and tuck something inside to entice the bidder.
Use your imagination. Let's have some fun!
Also bring a couple items of jewelry you no longer wear, a little bling. We will raffle or have a purchase price.
Also thanks to all that participated in the fundraisers. Hope you had fun as we raised money for our National General Fund.
