Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Merry Kwanza to all the Military

Order of the Purple heart Auxiliary. This is the season to wish one another

joy, love and peace. Family, Traditions, Foods, Music, Movies and shopping for just the right gift are in our thoughts this time of year.

Do you have a special symbol or tradition that you love this time of year, do

you send out cards, track Santa, spend the day with someone special and/or

that you have not seen for a while, cook special meals, make cookies, decorate a tree, decorate the inside or outside or both with holiday decorations, shop for a special gift for someone, or maybe give hints to someone of the special gift you would like to receive????

A tradition that is my favorite is decorating the tree and the house, the day after Thanksgiving. I stopped tracking Santa after my daughter was not a believer that Santa was coming to our house with a sleigh full of toys and that she was told by a classmate that Santa had died a few months before!

I loved to bake all different cookie recipes that were handed down generation to generation, but this year I will let my daughter and grandkids complete this and just enjoy eating them! Christmas carols start during tree decorating and all of them I enjoy. My favorite movie is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, but the first Christmas movie we watch is Die Hard??!! as a family??!!

This year, I have no hints to someone to get me a special gift, I have all I want here in my home on December 25th . Family, warm house, good food and love.

I would like to invite you and everyone to our National Zoom, on December 19, 2024, for an evening of fun. Usually, we do not have a meeting in December, but this year I would like everyone to join National for an evening to remember and share all the traditions each of you have treasured. Grab a cup or glass of coffee, tea, juice, water, hot toddy, wine, egg nogg or anything else and join us to celebrate the season and each other. Family members are

also included, the more the merrier.

Thank you for being someone I can count on this season and every season.

As we reflect on the significance of Pearl Harbor Memorial Day, we honor the bravery and sacrifice of those who served and perished on December 7, 1941. This day, which will forever live in infamy, marks a pivotal moment in our history and a testament to the courage and resilience of our armed forces.

While I didn't travel to observe the Pearl Harbor Remembrance, it was a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made and the importance of rising to the challenge in the face of adversity. People all over the country and worldwide commemorate this day through various ceremonies, parades, moments of silence, paying tribute to the fallen and honoring the survivors. These acts of remembrance serve as a powerful reminder of the unity and strength that define our military community.

As we transition into the holiday season, let us carry forward the spirit of unity and gratitude. This time of year is an opportunity to come together with loved ones, reflect on our blessings, and extend our support to those in need. I am forever grateful that our beloved Auxiliary remains committed to fostering an environment of goodwill and providing service to our veterans and their families. We fulfill our mission throughout the year, but the holidays provide a special essence that cannot be denied!  Approaching the new year, let's embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead with enthusiasm and determination. Wishing you all a prosperous 2025 filled with abundance, joy, and success. May this season bring peace, joy, and renewed hope to all! Let us honor the past, cherish the present, and look forward to a future filled with promise and possibility.

Happy December everyone. As I was going through our old files, I came across this little poem from the 1947 convention minutes titled "KILL A RUMOR ON THE SPOT"

Kill a rumor on the spot,

Let it die and be forgot.

If you scorn to pass it on

It will soon be dead and gone;

Be polite, but be discreet,

Ugly stories don't repeat.

If it's whispered unto you

You can bet it isn't true.

To be silent, very wise;

Unrepeated, rumor dies.

If it's vicious, if it's vile,

Think it over for a while....

And then KILL IT! Be the one

Much too smart to pass it on.

I'm hoping you may be thinking about the position of National Secretary and would love to take over next year. If you have questions, please ask either Teviah or me about it.

Rebates are done and going out...GREAT JOB National Treasurer Tracy.

I would like to let you know that I will not be available from January 3 to January 14. Mike and I are taking our first real vacation in 15 years. I'll tell you all about it when we return.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah or Happy Kwanzaa and a Happy New Year...however you celebrate the holiday season, may it be filled with love and joy.

ALL THE BEST TO YOU AND YOURS...

The True Meaning of Stress

A young lady confidently walked around the room while leading and explaining stress management to an audience; with a raised glass of water, and everyone knew she was going to ask the ultimate questions, 'half empty or half full?'...she fooled them all... "How heavy is this glass of waterShe inquired with a smile. Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz..

She replied "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance! In each case, it's the same weight - but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes". She continued, "and that's the way it is with stress. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on".

As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden - holding stress longer and better each time practiced. So, as early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don't carry them through the evening and into the night....pick them up tomorrow.

"Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment, relax, pick them up later after you've rested. Life is short. Enjoy it, and the now 'supposed' stress that you've conquered!"

  1. Accept the fact that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue!
  2. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.
  3. Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.
  4. Drive carefully...lt's not only cars that can be recalled by their maker.
  5. If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
  6. If I lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
  7. It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
  8. Never buy a car you can't push.
  9. Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.
  10. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.
  11. Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.
  12. The second mouse gets the cheese.
  13. When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
  14. Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you Iive.
  15. You may be only one person in the world, but you mav also be the world to one person.
  16. Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once.
  17. We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.
  18. A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
  19. Have an awesome day and know that someone has thought about you today. It was I, your friend!
  20. Save the earth...lt's the only planet with chocolate!!!

A SOLDIER'S CHRISTMAS POEM

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE,

IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,

AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,

NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,

ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,

A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,

I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE,

CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,

NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?'

CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FORA BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,

OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,

AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,

BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE,

ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,

I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,

"SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,

MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,

I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL

AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,

THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,

WHISPERED, "CARRY ON, SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE." ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT,

MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL, A GOOD NIGHT.

And lastly, but certainly not least... this is a friendly reminder to find the hidden hot-air balloon within each issue of General Orders, a hidden image (pictured) will be available for you to find. This month's hot air balloon is a little more decorative than in previous editions since this is such a festive season.

When you find it, email me with the location, before the beginning of the upcoming Zoom meeting and a name will be drawn from those lucky enough to have found the hot air balloon. The winner will be announced during Zoom and a prize will be awarded.

News from Region 4:

Some of the busiest days of the year are upon us - parties, special programs and family gatherings-and yet for many, these are some of the loneliest days. Those experiencing grief, isolation or depression may find themselves surrounded by the sights and sounds of the holiday season, but they have little to celebrate. Region 4 units, departments and individual members are doing their best possible to be true examples of kindness as they work tirelessly to share “glad tidings” with those often overlooked, who are veterans and their families.

Caregivers tend to care, not only for their designated person, but those nearby that deserve a kind word as well. Homeless veterans are provided with blessing bags that are filled with essential items as well as given hot meals and small gifts. Homebound patriots receive “check in” calls, cards and many times short visits. Expectant mothers are gifted with nursery and infant items and young children get to experience a visit from Santa and his elves . Service men and women, base bound, are given a surprise visit from Mrs. Claus and a stocking that is bursting with treats and care items. Those patriots who reside in long term care facilities are provided with personal care items, small treats and personal phone call or visits.

Within our auxiliary family, no one is forgotten, and kindness is shown to all we encounter. Region 4 is showing others, who may feel unloved and overlooked, that we care and appreciate service given. May each of our MOPH family find peace and comfort, love and joy during the days ahead and may our actions show others what love looks like today! God bless us everyone!

SEASON OF JOY AND LOVE

Season Greetings and Blessings. Yep! While continuing in the season of Thanksgiving, I encourage you to enter into best season.  We have arrived –we are here-we are so greatly blessed to be here to see, receive, feel and share/spread the spirit of JOY and LOVE! WELCOME to the greatest celebration season-CHRIST MASThe word that is being spoken, heard, and/or seen especially during this holiday season. I have chosen to use JOY and LOVE words as two of the “every day” occurrences in our lives when we really think about it, accept it, and choose it. I know that it’s quite challenging to do this when we view the world through our human eyes and all of this year’s past events, but God’s Holy Word tells us that because He is Great, Powerful and His Understanding is beyond measure, He does not see the world as man does-He’s Omniscient. Furthermore, think about this, HE is JOY and LOVE (comes from God Rom 5:5):

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son …” John 3:16

We entered the four weeks (Sundays) of Advent season in preparation for the Nativity emphasizing hope peace, JOY and LOVE through prayer, meditation, and/or Bible with family and friends by some folks prior to Christmas holiday. Others celebrated Hanukkah for 8 days; while yet, others observe Kwanzaa for 7 days. I mention these because there are some unique principles shared by all three events-holiday CELEBRATION. Yet, others celebrate without it being a specific day or holiday just whatever their cultural experience is to celebrate.
