Reflections on Organizational Values
We have spent some time this past year really trying to understand and leverage who we are as a City and a community. It started with comprehensive brand development, where we looked to residents and businesses to help define what makes us special. We learned that f amily, community, growth and legacy along with the City's record for safety, its exceptional schools, vibrant and growing business community and central Southern California location were central to our identity. The resulting brand included a new logo and taglines: connected by community, connected by business, connected by well-being.

More recently we turned to our employees to help us define and develop the City of Murrieta's organizational values. Through a series of surveys and interactive meetings, we explored what matters most to our organization and what we aspire to be as we serve the Murrieta community. We will continue to proactively weave the values you see below into all we do. I see these values reflected every day in the actions of our employees. We hope that you recognize them too.

City Hall Unveils New Citizens Academy
Murrieta's new City Hall Citizen's Academy is your opportunity to get an up-close and personal look at local government. The Academy runs for eight consecutive weeks beginning March 2, 2020, with a Saturday field trip to key development locations. It continues on Wednesday nights through April 12, 2020. Throughout the Academy, you will hear from various City departments, learning what they do and how it's making an impact in our community.

Citizens Academy graduates will receive a certificate and special recognition at a City Council meeting. Those who complete all three Academies (City Hall, Fire and Police) will become City Ambassadors. For more information or to register, please email Lali Quinteros in the City Clerk's office.
Census 2020 Brings Key Funding to our City
Census 2020 is almost here, and we want to encourage all of you to get counted. Held every 10 years since 1790, the Census shapes how political power and federal tax dollars are shared over the next decade. That's essential money for schools, roads and public services. Here's how it works:
  • Mid-March: Invitations to participate online (and some paper questionnaires) distributed. There will also be an 800 number for those who wish to participate by phone.
  • Early April: Reminders and paper questionnaire distributed to those who have not participated online.
  • Late April: Door-to-door visits begin for those who have still not responded.
It's estimated that every person not counted equates to a $20K loss for the community. You can learn more about the U.S. Census at  www.Census.gov

February is Love Your Library Month

February is Love Your Library month! The celebration of school, public and private libraries of all types is a time for everyone to recognize the value of libraries. The Murrieta Public Library honors this month by waiving $1 of fines for each non-perishable, nutritious, pre-packaged food item brought to the Library's Circulation Desk through February. The maximum amount of fines waived is $15. This is a great way to reduce or eliminate the fines from your library account and help those in the community who need assistance. The donations will be given to Murrieta United Methodist Church's food pantry.
Town Square Park Improvements are Underway!
You will see lots of activity at Town Square Park, as amphitheater construction and related improvements have begun. To accommodate this work, the park will be closed for reservations through most of 2020. There will be work-arounds for a few of our annual events, such as Tour de Murrieta and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

In addition to the state-of-the-art amphitheater and seating for 750, we're constructing restrooms, storage building, dressing room, improved perimeter lighting, Wi-Fi, and security cameras. The site hopes to open for a wide range of outdoor entertainment events by the end of the year. This long-awaited project was approved and funded in 2007 with Redevelopment funds specifically linked to this project.
