Greater KC Region...we have work to do!

I know it can feel like a daunting task, to know where to start, when considering justice and mercy in this world.

If you'd like to engage in meaningful and transformative ways around the work of racial equity in the Metro, here are a few things that are coming up through MORE2:

All communities --

1.MORE2 is fundraising!! I know...nobody likes that word. BUT:  our Region will receive an incentive !! A rebate of 10% will be given back to the Greater KC Region, for every advertisement and annual fundraising dollar sold! If you have a business, church or ministry that would like to buy an advertisement for our MORE2 Annual Banquet, please contact Rev. Trish Winters at 816-785-4931 or  [email protected]  OR Dr. Yalonda Smith at  [email protected] , knowing that 10% of your gift will come right back to our Region!!

In Missouri --

1.Tomorrow, Thursday, July 2 at 10:00 AM, is the Missouri Clergy Caucus. These monthly Clergy Caucus meetings are great opportunities to be part of the vital anti-racism and equity work in the metro; the gatherings are small, on Zoom, and foster connections with others who are trouble-shooting this (occasionally) polarizing work in their own congregations. The meeting link is here:
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88502258960?pwd=Y3lmYnZPVU5iV1ROaTMrcm8wZ1dKdz09  The meeting ID number is: 885 0225 8960 and needed password: 641613

2.Missouri Issues2Action Night is coming up next week, July 6 at 6:00 PM. This gathering is open to all people interested in issues of justice: education, KCMO policing, Medicaid expansion, and economic equity. The Zoom link is here:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/863520737?pwd=UVdLTEc2SzJabnhOakFuNDl5d3ZsQT09  The meeting ID is: 863 520 737 and the password is: 026491.

3.As I hope you're aware, MORE2, in collaboration with several other community organizations, was successful in getting Medicaid expansion on the August ballot. Now, we need 5-10 people who will make phone calls to engage potential voters regarding this ballot initiative; this vital work raises awareness, answers potential questions (a short training is provided), and gets the MORE2 name out in our community. If you are interested in this work, please contact Jennifer Gwinner (member of Community CC), at 1-573-819-1297 or  [email protected]  OR click here:   https://www.more2.org/phonebank/

4.On July 24th, at 10:00, the Moms and Sisters of KCPD Victims will have a press rally and need our support. This rally will be downtown, but site is TBD (stay tuned in late July).

In Kansas --

1.Each Thursday, a MORE2 group gathers at the Wyandotte County Unified Government building (701 N 7th St, KCK) at 6:30 for an ongoing protest to continue to voice significant demands: police accountability, victim support, and community safety. All are invited to this socially distanced and safe protest; please wear a mask.

2.Safe and Welcoming Wyandotte still needs our help...and it's easy to do so! Wyandotte residents can now contact your local officials (Mayor Alvey and your At-Large and Local Commissioners) to share your support of Safe and Welcoming Wyandotte, which would create a municipal ID system and restrict the cooperation of local law enforcement with ICE. The link to the easy letter writing campaign can be found here:  https://secure.ngpvan.com/7HJZUZWOu0iL0k0-_3uJpA2

3.The next Kansas Issues2Action night will be July 20. Zoom link will be available closer to the date; if you would like to make sure you are getting these links, please contact Rev. Trish at  [email protected]  or the MORE2 Director, Lora McDonald at   [email protected]  so that you can be added to the email list.

I hope you'll join me and your peers/colleagues in this  important work, in this important time !! Don't hesitate to call or text for more information.

Peace and grace to you....
