MOTHER NATURE PROPELS THE HUAWEI MASTERS
Uxbridge, ON (August 22, 2016) – After a forced week off due to weather, The Tour was in full force this week at the awesome Wyndance Golf Club. As this fine Monday morning got under way, there was just a hint of a breeze looming to challenge players on a golf course that already feels big and powerful. Players were headed for a windy uphill battle right out of the gate.
Wyndance Golf Club, in Uxbridge, Ontario, holds the distinction of being the first course in Canada designed by the legendary Greg Norman. Norman, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Mr. Norman crafted a masterful routing through and around a former sand and gravel pit to create a breathtaking and powerful masterpiece. As a result, Wyndance Golf Club was named runner-up by Golf Digest as best new course in Canada in 2008.
Tom Fraser, of the Champ Flight, has been lingering at the top of the leader board all year long, and this week he would finally break through for his first win of this 2016 season shooting a sensational 69! Matt MacKay would follow up with a second place 74 and Chris Harwood secured third by carding a 76. A Flight would also see a first time winner as Bill Jones would rip up the course with blistering 73. Four other A Flight players would end up tied with matching, and excellent rounds of 77. In the end, Brian Provencal would secure second and Tour regular Mike Hubbs finished in third. Mark Lawrence of B Flight would win his first event carding a steady 83 and would have Louis-Philippe Beauchemin knocking on his door shooting an 84 for a second place finish. Tour veteran John Baty would claw his way up the leader board by shooting an 85 to take third place. The C Flight's Carl Thompson would be crowned champion with a wonderful round of 88, Pat McCulloch would settle nicely into second place with 90 and, two strokes back, Rob Martel would secure third place with a 92. Seniors' A Flight would see Kevin Wallwork land in first place with an 86. Rizalde Cuachon of Seniors' B shot 99 for a first place finish. Women's Flight was won by Denise Schaefer recording Net 78.
