Good Afternoon,
Welcome to the fall semester. Most of you have started classes in the last few weeks and many more of you will start in little over a week, and then we'll be full swing into the fall semester! I'm excited about what we have planned for this fall for all students and know that there will be something for everyone!
New semesters are always a time of new beginnings. One analogy I always think of with new beginnings is on a race course or sailing in general (I've made a joke about how I can relate everything to sailing, and now I'm going to keep trying... sorry!). Each new race or even new puff of wind allows you to start new, you may have been way behind in the last race but in the next race can come right back. Or you may have been the last to get a puff of wind and got behind or got forced into a different direction (wind isn't always in a consistent direction!) then what you wanted, but a new puff of wind, like a new semester offers new opportunities, new directions, and a reset. The new semester is a great time to think about your career goals, did you think you wanted to do something, then didn't like a class or had an internship that wasn't what you thought it would be, let's talk! A new semester can also be a continuation of something good, like in sailing if you had a good puff, you might get another one to help you get to where you want even more! The new semester can be that too!
I'm excited to help you think through your professional goals, assess your interests, and get to your next step!
In this Career Digest, I will share a few professional development opportunities, which will include conferences and workshops, upcoming events, and a few resources.
I am always available to discuss your career goals, help with your Professional Development Plan, and/or review your resume/cover letter, help with your job search, and/or help as you negotiate a job offer. Wherever you are in the program or in your professional journey, I'd love to connect and help you develop your plan for next steps!
Lastly, don't forget to connect to the Microsoft Teams Career Services and Professional Development Team - access teams through Heelmail. We encourage you all to engage in the conversation in the teams group, ask questions, answer questions, share resources, etc. In addition to the team group, I am available for individual chat through MS teams - chat me anytime. This is also a great way to practice your professional communication through chat as many employers utilize teams (or something similar) to stay in touch with employees (even if they're down the hall!).
