A Visit to District at Parkview

I stopped in to see the new Rentals at District at Parkview. I must say, I was much impressed with the quality of the development. I also learned that there are not just Apartments, but the build-out includes  Rental Townhomes and some Rental Cottages. This development certainly fills a niche for high-end Rental Housing. The Housing market has been changing for some years now. There is more need and acceptance of Rentals in our community. Data shows that a majority of Empty-Nester Boomers are still living in the 3,4,5 bedroom suburban homes that they raised their kids in, and that’s expected to continue for 10 more years. Gen-Y and Z are looking for Rentals and Townhomes and Condos to buy until they have kids and look for the traditional suburb single-family-detached homes. It’s nice to have this option available.

Service Request Portal -

One of our County Government’s Hidden Gems is this portal where any resident can report almost anything that needs fixing. You don’t have to know whose responsibility it is, or finding the right Department, they will figure it out.

Glass Recycling: In addition to our weekly Curb-Side Recycling, Mountain Park residents, who want to put in a little extra effort can easily recycle glass bottles & jars at the Mountain Park Aquatic Center. Only Glass Jars & bottles… No Other Glass items (ex: windows, mirrors, cookware, etc.)

Aluminum Cans: If you’d like to take your Aluminum Cans to Fire Station #3 on Five Forks Trickum, the funds will go to the Burned Firefighter fund, a worthy cause. Only Aluminum Cans…. No Scrap Aluminum, No steel cans

This Case went before the Gwinnett Planning Commissioners on July 8. Planning Commissioners voted 7 to 1 to Deny it. One entity spoke in opposition, aside of the developer, no one spoke in favor (link to meeting video). The opposition focused on 3 risks

1): Wrong Location: given that the Vehicle, Truck and Heavy Equipment storage yard is across the river from the large future County Park at the River Bend property; Across the river from a new Lake Lucerne Pocket Park; Adjacent to the Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary; Just upstream from the Vecoma County Park Property; and across the river from Section-1 of the future Yellow River Walking Trail.

2): Risks: the storage yard is a large portion of the 29 acre site, 215 semi-truck & trailer storage spaces; with an expected traffic of 52 semi-trucks daily leaving/entering the property and entering/leaving Hwy-78.; the site is permeable gravel, any fluids (fuel, oils, radiator fluid, battery fluids, hydrologic fluids, along with leakage of any stored chemicals) will go directly into the soil and the river. The Developer also mentioned the site would be open all night and they anticipate Truck drivers using it at all hours and sleeping in their trucks; even though the site has no restrooms facilities or trash facilities.

3): Inconsistent and hostile with important planned Community improvements. Mostly regarding healthy outdoor amenities like the 3 parks, the Walking Trail and the Paddle Trail. These Amenities are important to the revitalization of Mountain Park and Centerville.

The cases are expected to come before the County Commissioners in August.

The MPCA would like the Communities opinions, a Survey is being prepared.

Do You Have Old Power Poles In Your Yard?

Here’s what you can do to speed up replacement/removal.

Many of our neighborhoods were begun in the 1970’s & 80’s. Many of the power poles are 40-50 yrs old and still in service.  Many are in various stages of replacement. You can help make the process faster.

Walton EMC has a process to replace old, weak, damaged, undersized Utility poles, but it’s a slow process that can take ½ a decade to complete. In the meantime you may have the ugly old pole and a new pole in your yard, with wires on both.
