Accomplishments

Public art for Mountain Park

MPCA played a role early on under the leadership of Kate Pittman in the murals that are now complete at the Extra Space Storage facility located on Rockbridge Rd near Hwy 78! This mural represents our Parkview Highschool! Thank you to the artist Anat Ronen! Thank you to the Extra Space Storage facility for providing the canvas!

7 Brew Coffee modifies plans to add a Pocket Park

Remember the 7 Brew Coffee planned in front of the Publix? MPCA sent out a survey several months ago to gain your feedback on another drive-thru establishment. 45% of those who responded stated they would support the drive-thru establishment IF a pocket park or green space with sitting areas is incorporated. The Gwinnett County Planning Commission recommended denial based on the establishment not aligning with the 2040/2045 Unified Plan. 38% of responders agreed with the Planning Commission. This feedback was provided to the county and to the developer. The site plan was modified to include the green space with sitting areas as shown in the before and after pictures above.

The Planning Staff recommended Denial to the Planning Commissioners based on the following:

The Unified Plan's Future Development Map indicates "Neighborhood Traditional" for the subject property, which consists primarily of single-family residential. The nonresidential uses for this future development type includes utilities, parks/open space, and conservation, but not auto-oriented commercial uses. The proposal is not in conformity with the policy and intent of the 2045 Unified Plan and Future Development Map.
