What a Year!

Maine Professional Drivers Association's

past year was amazing!

Let's take a walk down

memory lane...

Maine Professional Drivers Association (MPDA) members participated in

National Wreaths Across America Day!

Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, Wreaths Across America's mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 3,400 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.

Driver

Appreciation

Day!

September 12, 2022

MPDA had an excellent turn-out for our Driver Appreciation Day event held in conjunction with the National Driver Appreciation Week in September each year.

An impressive 459 trucks rolled through during the three-hour event held at the south bound scale house on I95 in Kittery.

MPDA served a delicious hot lunch to 125 drivers and gave each driver snacks for the road!

Congratulations to Rob Fernald, committee chair, his entire committee, along with many volunteers who made MPDA's Driver Appreciation Day a

HUGE success!

Trucking for Kids Convoy

This year’s Trucking 4 Kids Convoy was a

RECORD-BREAKING success!

We had 83 trucks participate in the convoy, with 35 drivers competing in the skills competition.

There were many fun and interesting items raffled off as well.

MPDA raised over $40,000 at the event!

We are very grateful to all of our MPDA volunteer members

and all the participants!

Proceeds benefitted Camp Sunshine and Camp POSTCARD.

Congratulations to Paulie Rumery and Jack Roussel,

co-chairs and the entire Convoy committee!

Members Compete at Nationals!

In August, MPDA members competed in written exams, skills tests, pre-trip inspections and driving competitions at the

National Truck Driving Championships in Indianapolis, IN.

Topped off by the Finals and a Championship Ceremony and Celebration, members enjoyed their time together and exhibited the exemplary skills of Maine drivers!

Before the event, in Maine, fellow members held a practice session for the competing driver members.

In Indy and at home, all MPDA members cheered the members on and showed their support!

George "Skip" McGahey

Driver George “Skip” McGahey passed away.

He was a driver for Hannaford Brothers and was the 1977 State Champion in the flatbed class at the Maine Truck Roadeo, as the Truck Driving Championships were then known.

He represented Maine at the Nationals in Kansas City. He had also driven for A.R. Wright Oil Company.

Skip was 99 years old.

  Pete Mortensen

Pete Mortensen, "Pistol Pete" passed away after a long and courageous battle.

Pete was admired and loved by all fellow members, a friend to all and a mentor to so many.

Pete drove for Volk Packaging in Biddeford, Maine, Clifford W Perham, Inc./Shaw's Supermarkets

in Wells, Maine and most recently for Walmart Transportation in Lewiston, Maine.

At MPDA events, he was one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave. Most recently, Pete served as webmaster for the MPDA, taking great pride in improving it every day for our members.

“Buzzy” Hanscom

recently passed away.

Many of you will remember Buzzy at his Hanscom’s Truck Stops on both sides of the highway on Rt. 1 Bypass in Portsmouth, NH.

Buzzy always supported the organization and often donated prizes, water, and other items for our activities, especially when we fundraised for Camp Sunshine and the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Buzzy also maintained a Supporting Membership for his company in the Maine Professional Drivers Association.

He will long be remembered by those of us in the trucking industry who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Best wishes a safe, happy and prosperous New Year!
