2020-2021 School Year Planning Update

Dear Mt. Pleasant families, staff and community members,
I hope you find yourselves in good health as we continue to work through the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this communication is to update you on our planning process for the new 2020-2021 school year.
District Committee
Our District has formed a committee to support our planning efforts, comprised of over 40 individuals that represent multiple stakeholders, including district and school administrators, teachers, classified staff, and parents. This process will require thoughtful, intentional, and deliberate planning with feedback from all of our stakeholders.
Our first virtual meeting took place on June 16, 2020, and we are continuing to meet every week. The District will continue to gather input from our community in a number of ways. Our June Coffee with the Superintendent and our parent surveys were very informative.
It is important to note that this committee is considering a number of different scenarios for the fall, from in-person instruction, to 100% distance learning, to hybrid approaches.
Guiding Principles and Important Considerations
- Protect the safety and health of students, staff and families
- Plans must work to ensure equity, access and inclusion
- Eliminate opportunity gaps, address learning loss, and accelerate achievement
- Promote innovative high quality teaching and learning across all environments
- Ensure fiscal stewardship aligned to students’ needs
- Engage stakeholders in transparent, collaborative, and compassionate decision making
These agencies will provide guidance and information that will inform our reopening plans and will help us address several issues such as:
- Student and staff safety
- Facilities
- Technology
- Operations
- Teaching and learning, addressing the social, emotional and physical needs of students and staff
- Fiscal impact, governance, and procedures to implement the reopening plan
Next Steps
The District Committee will continue to meet weekly in July and will present a plan to the Mt. Pleasant Elementary School District Board of Trustees on
July 30, 2020 for approval at a special board meeting
.
In closing, thank you for your support as we work collaboratively to develop the best available options for our students and parents in the fall.
Whether schools can move forward with reopening for in-person instruction in the fall will depend on the containment of COVID-19 in the weeks ahead and the guidance from the Santa Clara Public Health Department.
Let’s continue following all recommended safety precautions including wearing a mask, washing hands frequently, and social distancing.
As more information becomes available, we will continue to update you on our planning efforts.

Estimadas familias, personal y miembros de la comunidad de Mt. Pleasant,
Espero que se encuentren bien de salud mientras continuamos trabajando durante la pandemia de COVID-19. El propósito de esta comunicación es actualizarlos en nuestro proceso de planificación para el nuevo año escolar 2020-2021.

Nuestro distrito ha formado un comité para apoyar nuestros esfuerzos de planificación, compuesto por más de 40 personas que representan a múltiples partes interesadas, incluidos administradores del distrito y de las escuelas, maestros, personal clasificado y padres.
