Happy New Year! I hope everyone in the MPI Community had an awesome holiday season – I know I did! With the turn of the calendar comes a time for reflection and setting our goals for 2019. My personal New Year Resolution is summed up in one word, “simplify”. As life gets hectic, it’s important to keep laser focused on what is most important to you, honing that focus will be my 2019 plan!
Similarly, your Board of Directors here at MPI New England is doing the same thing. In a few weeks, that team will be coming together at the beautiful Newport Harbor Hotel in RI for 2 days of reflection and goal setting for 2019 and beyond in the service of our chapter. 2018 was an amazing year for MPI New England – we’re in the black financially, we’re providing exceptional education and marketplace opportunities, and overall have an awesomely dedicated community. Now, we’ll plan to sustain that success.
Heading into this Board Retreat, I would love to hear from you! Send me over your ideas and suggestions and we will mull them as a team (hit me up:
bryan.lavin@jwu.edu
). Thank you all for a tremendous 2018 and I’m looking forward to an even more prosperous 2019.

Break Even Formulas By Joanne Dennison, MSEd, CMP

Break Even formulas…those calculations you need to make to determine the break even number of attendees or registration fees required for an event are pretty much guaranteed to be part of the CMP Certification Exam.
As Joanne says, “read the book, read the book, read the book”. But, if you’ve read the book and still have trouble understanding the concepts, this five part series of videos will be a valuable learning tool for you. Each step of the calculation is broken down into a logical process to complete whether you need to pass the exam or plan a real-life event.

Let us stop and remember an MPI New England former member, volunteer and enthusiastic Board member, Liisa Colby. Last November Liisa lost her short, two year battle with ALS remaining positive until the end.
Liisa’s involvement in the industry was at Doble Engineering as the Director of Marketing handling events and meetings. She handled that difficult role with the same passion, energy and positive focus that she did in all aspects of her life. Whether it was costuming up for a Sons of the American Revolution conference, tending to her artistic side in the art studio, having a friendly heated discussion on just about anything, or volunteering her time and energy to the New England Chapter, Liisa was a smile and a genuine energy that could not be forgotten.
Thank you Liisa for being a soul that our Chapter will never forget.
