JULY 2019
"MPI is a heart thing, not a head thing!"
No matter where you are in your MPI Membership, a brand new member or a member for 10+ years, I hope you’ve felt an emotional connection to this special chapter. If you haven’t, I’d love to be the person to help create that for you! If you have, send us your stories . We’d love to feature them in fun ways throughout the year. I’m ready and excited to lead this group through the next year, and I hope you’ll be a part of the journey with me.
~ Shannon

A Message From Carol Norfleet's Family

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our friend, our colleague, our mentor, Carol Norfleet. She passed away peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, June 15, in the presence of her son Gabe and held in the immeasurable love of her community.
How do you even begin to summarize the void left by a woman often described as a “force”? Being labeled as one of the core influencers to shape Nashville into the premier meeting and event destination it is today, Carol was nothing short of an icon for the industry. While her multiple awards support this title, it was the countless hours of time she spent mentoring the next generation of industry professionals that will be her work legacy. Always positive and encouraging, her dynamic energy was as infectious as her trademark laughter.

And while her 'event children' are in the thousands, she would be the first to tell you, her greatest accomplishment in life is her son, Gabe. He moves into adulthood with a profound awareness of her love and commitment to him.
Carol’s life and love, passion and impact will be celebrated in bright colors and in the company of friends in the coming days.

Today we mourn, and as she would want, hold each other tightly and carry on with her same spirit, generosity, and tenacity for life.

Godspeed Carol. Rest. In Peace.

Jody Lentz facilitates better teams, better meetings and better decisions. His creative communication and innovative approach help organizations think, plan and act strategically, and his passion is engaging organizations to create high-performance, low-drama work cultures. He supports a wide range of clients with innovative, creative problem-solving tools, including the Think With Your Hands workshop. Jody has facilitated this experience for nearly 8000 people globally, beginning when he worked for the LEGO® Company in the early 2000s, where his team developed the LEGO® Serious Play™ product line and process. The workshop proves over and over Plato’s wisdom: “you learn more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”

Come play with your MPI Tennessee Chapter as we learn in an engaging way to explore
strategic planning and deepen connections.
As you are registering for upcoming MPI Tennessee events, something new may catch your eye. Our registrations now include a $2 donation to the MPI Foundation. We are hopeful that with our average attendance, this small amount will add up to several thousand dollars over the course of the year.
Our chapter has been the recipient of several grants over the years and in 2019; we have had two members attend WEC with assistance from the Foundation. Countless members have benefited from other scholarships for certification programs, memberships, and Global events over the year. Overall, the Foundation has provided Global MPI members 600+ scholarships since 2017.
The most exciting part of this easy and inexpensive program is that we are the first US chapter to adopt it. We are so proud as MPI Tennessee to support our industry in this great way and pave the way for other chapters.

Thank you in advance for your support!
If you were not able to attend the 2019 MPI WEC Conference in Toronto, over 2,500 people participated in Dear World's interactive keynote presentation that connected everyone through their stories. Almost 1,000 people participated in the photo booth portrait making their voices heard. Select this link to view the video shared at the closing session. Be prepared... these stories will evoke true, raw emotion.
