MPNRF Under the Microscope

Greetings!

It has been an exciting month for the MPN community! We saw the approval of Inrebic (Fedratinib), the first FDA approved drug for MPNs in nearly a decade. We are so happy that another option exists for patients, and at the same time we are hopeful at the research moving forward that will lead to additional therapies and knowledge about PV, ET and MF. Below we link to an article in Clinical Cancer Research describing promising results for MPN patients from a clinical trial with the drug Alisertib, an Aurora-Kinase Inhibitor, as well as share a few clinical trials that are recruiting people with an MPN.

Fedratinib Approved for MF Patients

The approval of Inrebic (fedratinib) for myelofibrosis is the first FDA-approval of a new therapy for myelproliferative neoplasms in nearly a decade. We at the MPN Research Foundation are thrilled to see more options for people living with myelfobrosis who have long suffered with few options for relief. We hope this approval ushers in a new era with many more new safe and effective options for people living with PV, ET and MF!

October 1 is Rare Cancer Day

The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) announced today that they've devoted a day to raising awareness about rare cancers. Spearheaded by the NORD Rare Cancer Coalition which is comprised of 24 rare cancer-specific Member Organizations, including MPNRF. Rare Cancer Day will be provide a platform to highlight the challenges people living with rare cancers face and to unify individuals living with rare cancers for awareness and early diagnosis.

Clinical Cancer Research Publishes an Article on Myelofibrosis

An article published in Clinical Cancer Research, "Aurora Kinase A Inhibition Provides Clinical Benefit, Normalizes Megakaryocytes, and Reduces Bone Marrow Fibrosis in Patients with Myelofibrosis: A Phase I Trial," determined that targeting the Aurora Kinase A Inhibition has potential benefit for patients with myelofibrosis.

Verstovsek Outlines Features of and Therapies for MPNs

In an article published by Targeted Oncology, Dr. Srdan Verstovsek, MD, Ph.D., discussed with a group of physicians the considerations he makes with the diagnosis and management of patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). Read Dr. Verstovsek's answers to questions such as, what are important diagnostic parameters of myelofibrosis, how do you treat patients with MDS/MPN, what is the best therapy, what risk assessment models are available for prognosis, and how does this affect the choice of therapy.

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) & the MPN Research Foundation is busy preparing for this important time in the MPN community. We are taking this opportunity to spread the word about Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs), raise money to fund the latest research & remind patients & caregivers that we are here to support them.
