Dear Neighbours,

Happy New Year to you and your family and welcome to 2023! The new year is a time to set new goals while reflecting on and celebrating the achievements of the past year. Through the hard work and resilience of Team Ontario, we have seen communities across the province come together to rebuild our province after the challenging times.

2022 was a year of strength, determination, and positivity as everyone paved the path for the future of Ontario. The Fall economic statement in 2022 provided a transparent look into the province’s finances and how it intends to enhance its plan to build Ontario while intensifying its efforts. Our Plan to Build Ontario included expanding infrastructure, healthcare systems, highways, and rebuilding our economy. With new improvements in policies to reduce red tape and build more homes faster. With skilled trade, we are ensuring a better future for our leaders of today and tomorrow. Overall, the vision that was reinstated in the year 2022 will be continuing into the year 2023 which is to make Ontario the best place to live work, and raise a family for everyone.

To make the process of building Ontario together more inclusive and faster, government has launched 2023 budget consultations with community members and stakeholders to seek input from everyone. Our next townhall meeting will be on January 26th 2022, we will roll out more information about it as we get closer to the date.

Christmas Open House

Thank you, Mississauga-Malton, for joining me for the Christmas Open House. It was a wonderful day filled with art, good food and fun conversation. I was amazed by the creativity of kids in making bracelets that represented positive vibes of love, peace, and joy!

Hand-made bracelets from kids will be gifted to seniors to express their gratitude. It was heartwarming to join kids to write letters to Santa.

I had the opportunity to interact with all the attendees in a relaxed setting with delicious treats. I want to thank all the volunteers and staff for making this event a huge success.

Ontario Creating More Affordable Child Care Spaces Across the Province

The Ontario government has secured $13.2 billion in funding to create 53,000 new, affordable childcare spaces over the next 4 years. These spaces will save parents, on average, between $6,000-10,000 per child per year.

“Mississauga-Malton is home to many young families. Over 50% of its households have children, and approximately 18% of the population is under 14 years old” said MPP Deepak Anand.

These new accessible and affordable childcare spaces will help relieve parents financially, while also creating quality jobs in the community.

Additionally, the province has announced an expansion to the dual credit program for youth, to attract 420 students over two years into Early Childhood Education career pathways, to ensure a steady stream of qualified caregivers.

December Investments In Ontario

Investments in Ontario for December 2022:

More than $2 million to help break the cycle of intimate partner violence and keep communities safe.

The funding is being delivered through the Partner Assault Response (PAR) program and will support specialized group education and counselling for people who are mandated by the courts to receive it.

$11.3 million to produce largest facility of renewable natural gas (RNG) and biocarbon –in Canada.

The governments of Ontario and Canada are investing more than $11.3 million to expand CHAR Technologies’ facility in Thorold to produce renewable natural gas (RNG) and biocarbon.

$4.8 million over two years to expand the Dual Credit program to attract students into skill-trades

The Ontario government is updating high school courses in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), including learning related to the skilled trades to ensure students have the cutting-edge digital literacy and modern technological skills.

$20 million to support the addition of 27 new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines in hospitals

This funding will provide hospitals in all regions of the province with annual operational funding for new MRI machines. For people in these communities, this means they will have more convenient access to diagnostic imaging and no longer need to travel to receive an MRI scan.

More than $500 million over five years to modernize adult correctional services.

The Ontario government is deploying more correctional services staff to ensure the safety and security of communities across the province. 113 correctional officers and 18 probation and parole officers graduated from Ontario’s Corrections Centre for Professional Advancement and Training after several weeks of intensive training.

$4 Million to Help Drive World-class Research, Development and Commercialization

The Ontario government is investing $4 million to support greater collaboration between industry and the postsecondary education and research sectors to create well-paying jobs in local communities and help build a resilient economy.

$505 million ensure municipal transit systems continues to deliver safe and reliable transit services.

The Safe Restart Agreement will help municipal transit systems address costs related to the COVID-19 pandemic between February 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022. Municipalities will be able to use their funding allocations to cover revenue losses, operating expenses, and provincial transit priority projects.

Investments in Peel Region:

$3 billion to repair and expand Highway 401 in Mississauga

The Ontario government has expanded Highway 401 with 18 kilometres of new lanes from Mississauga to Milton which will help fight gridlock and keep goods and people moving across the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

$4.2 Million to Upgrade and Repair Infrastructure of Trillium Health Partners

The redevelopment and expansion projects at THP will ensure we have the modern facilities and much-needed capacity to deliver high-quality, exceptional care to this community for generations to come.
