The Beach Creek Culvert Replacement project has now completed, and Crescent Road East is again open to regular traffic.
This vital project replaced two aging steel culverts on Crescent Road East, essential to the stability of the Town's infrastructure and the health of our local ecosystem. Located under a substantial road fill, the Beach Creek culverts play a key role in supporting the local environment, particularly the fish habitat, which includes spawning grounds for coho salmon. The deteriorated state of the culverts left them vulnerable to potential failure, which posed risks of flooding, road collapse, and damage to our community’s habitat and infrastructure.
The scope of the project included replacing the two steel culverts with a single fish-friendly concrete box culvert, installing mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls, upgrading the watermain, replacing road fills above the box culvert, and creek channel improvements. These measures ensure that the new culvert will withstand future pressures while promoting the health of the surrounding environment.
The project was completed on schedule between June and November 2024, during which time traffic on Crescent Road East was closed to all vehicle and pedestrian access over Beach Creek.
Funding for the project was made possible through a $1,374,000 grant, jointly provided by the Federal and Provincial Governments under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) – Green Infrastructure: Adaptation, Resilience, and Disaster Mitigation stream. This funding was essential in supporting the total project cost of $2,067,400.
With these improvements now in place, Beach Creek and Crescent Road East are well-prepared to serve and protect our community for years to come
