Hurricanes Helene/Milton Response | |
As we witness the immense devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in the Southeast US, and are fearing the destruction from Hurricane Milton in Florida, know that the conferences in those areas are working around the clock to check in with affected community leaders, clergy, and disaster response teams.
In the coming days, more information will be available on ways you can help with the recovery efforts across the areas. In the meantime, prayerfully consider the list of ways you can help below. We know that our United Methodist family will show up with abundance to help those whose lives and livelihoods have been impacted by this storm. We thank you for your generosity and support.
Things you can do to support those affected by Hurricane Helene: PRAY, GIVE, PAUSE. Please PRAY for those affected by the recent hurricane and the first responders providing care, safety, and immediate needs. You may GIVE to UMCOR - United Methodist Committee On Relief and finally, PAUSE: do not self-deploy to the area. Due to the nature and magnitude of this disaster, it will take months, maybe even years to recover. Just so you know, you will be needed. Just not yet. We will provide more updates as they become available. Click here to donate.

Laity Sunday is a day set aside to remember and lift up a constant reality: the priesthood and ministry of all. Everyone is invited to share in God’s community of healing togetherness and world-repairing love.
Laity Sunday is a special Sunday defined by General Conference “to celebrate the ministry of all Christians” (2016 Book of Discipline, ¶ 264.2). Usually observed on the third Sunday in October (in 2024, October 20), Laity Sunday is one way we express the core Christian conviction that all are called to participate in God’s mission to “abolish death” and bring life to light through the good news of Jesus. Read more about the history of Laity Sunday.

All In Community Resilience Clergy Retreat |
Jesus’ story reflected so much of our everyday lives. He was surrounded by and encountered deeply traumatic situations and highly traumatized people. And if we dare to be involved in ministry work, it’s safe to conclude that experiencing some form of trauma is inevitable. However, there is hope for us all. A resurrected person is a resilient person. Jesus IS alive, and because we are resurrected with Christ, we, too, can live a resilient life.
Resilience is not about being the toughest, strongest, or having the most 'grit'. It's about acknowledging our complete dependence on the triune God and accepting that we cannot navigate life on our own. A resilient life is a gift from God, and it's a gift that's accessible to everyone
This one-day workshop recognizes the beauty in every individual, as well as, the pain we experience as pastors in walking with justice-impacted persons. In this retreat, we will recognize the special burdens carried in this area of ministry and learn resilience with a simple approach of identifying and strategizing. We will identify the variety of traumas that have impacted our human nervous system, local churches, and surrounding communities and strategize ways to become resilient through customized, evidence-based educational and interactive sessions.
Time: 10AM-3PM Cost: $20 for meal and materials
Facilitator: Rev. Dr. Camisha Chambers, All In Community Nurturing Communities Coordinator
